What did you pay for your FL5?

2.5k over msrp in los angeles. bay area dealers were mostly min 5k. i lost one in fremont for 3k over msrp. i called all over the coutnry and ohio had the best deals for me. a few dealers were msrp with no markup.

Just picked up Boost Blue over the weekend for 2k over with no accessories added. Most SoCal dealers starts at 5k over but would drop down to 3k without too much negotiation. However, getting below 3k seems to be a challenge at the moment. Some are still starting at 10k over with added accessories. I figured if you can get it at MSRP in Ohio, then cost you 1.5k to ship it back and maybe a trip out there to see the car and do your paperwork will land you at ~2k. That's the main reason that I just took the 2k deal. Some of these dealers are still smoking something for asking 10k over!

~$48,000 OTD, championship white from Saratoga Honda in New York State. I had a trade in too and got $900 off MSRP after haggling pretty aggressively between 2 dealerships.

2k over is a great deal in cali market!! yeah thats how my math worked out. quotes to ship from ohio were ~1200. if you factor in flight, rental car, hotel, misc. you broke even buying in cali for ~3k over msrp. so i totally made out with my 2.5k over. but what really gets me is the finanace/lease costs. money is just so expensive now! but i got it and given my age this will probably be the last car i own before i meet my maker. all i want now is a slate for 15k.

Broke, no haha. Walking away about $30,000 in debt after putting $30,000 down though... kind of broke my brain in hindsight. Though, I am indescribably happy. I would need to find my bill of sales to get the exact prices, but after mark-up, fees and taxes, and warranty shit, It felt like we were right back to square one ?

Oh man, over 60k for a type R is crazy! They skinned you real good, I was upset at a $2k markup and walked out, can imagine they saw dollar signs when you walked in.

I understand. It's a perk of being a first mover. I remember those early days vividly. MSRP was incredibly rare to come by and most people paid up for the privilege to be closer to the front of the line.

I put a considerable down as well (not near you), so I could have a comfortable payment during the lease term. And my residual is like $30k after the term so if I wanna buy it out my payment will be less. But I’m a lunatic with cars and don’t keep them long, so we’ll see this time around haha!

That's right. The, "For that type of money you can get (insert random car)." talk track is a hasty generalization. It only applies if you are open to other vehicles. It doesn't matter if you don't like or want (insert random cars). I found that to increasingly be the case with the FL5, especially early on. Folks didn't want anything else, and I get it. There is no other car I was interested in. I was getting an FL5 or nothing.

Yep. Coming out of the craziness of 2022 did not help matters either. I think people forget that. My local dealership was selling beaters (from auctions etc) for a long period of time just to have something on the lot to sell. The fallout of the pandemic hit the economies of smaller cities/towns hard. So when I got my FL5 from them in early 2023, I’m sure they were dying to squeeze every penny out of the sale that they could. I don’t blame them. They have a business to run and people to keep employed. At the end of the day, I wanted the car and had the means to pay for it. They gave me a fair deal, all things considered. I didn’t pay anywhere near the $10k ADM that was very common back then. It worked out well.

I agree with the sentiment in that I only wanted an FL5 too. The difference here isn't necessarily what you want, but timeframe. The problem with the CTR is in the fact that it's a type R. Its got more polish and pedigree than other hot hatches and is a track car, it's incredibly hard to beat that with any other type of car (unless you go waaaaaay up in price) - hence it's highly in demand.

In no way is my view a jab at others, but rather than I don't like giving dealerships more than the car is worth. If I didn't get my car for anything less than MSRP I would've waited (probably would've made it worse). If we were talking about a normal car I'd be agreeing that getting the car sooner than later was incredibly important, but that's just not the case. The type R is 100% a car you get for fun that can also be dailyable. No reason to pay more than it's worth I think, but like I said I've been incredibly lucky and would've potentially paid over MSRP if push came to shove.
