I appreciate the review, but have a bit of a different take. I drove the Z4 M40i at the BMW Performance Center recently and honestly came away pretty disappointed from a performance standpoint. As a cruiser, it’s probably fine, and the power and acceleration were solid. But for a roadster, it...
That rattle, which I presume is the exhaust valve, is loud and annoying. Since this a prototype, they may correct it when it gets to production. Seems ill advised to release a promotional video with such an audible rattle. Also interesting a dual tip arrangement is outfitted with an exhaust valve.
While I don't store my car for the winter, there can be stretches (up to 2 months) where I don't drive the car and a battery tender works just fine. I've never had an issue and will continue to use a battery tender for this instance.
I don't believe anyone in TN has the ability to unlock the FL5 ECU in-person. The closest may be @JST Performance in GA.
Check here. @Serge81 has advertised remote unlocking.
Yay, another intercooler option! Expect to see a GReddy intercooler (and radiator) in 2026. Note that the quality appears to be a little dodgy, but keep in mind these are prototypes. I expect the finished products to be of higher quality.
The GReddy carbon fiber lip on this car is intriguing. I can't seem to find anything in the catalogs or online. I sent a note to them inquiring, we'll see if they respond.
Issa no on those tips. Too large, too weird. I'm pleased to have selected an exhaust some time ago and move on to other pursuits. Too many choices, and far too many considerations.
This is a terrible deal. Skip the hassle and buy new. You can find one for below MSRP if you're willing to shop outside of your local area. You can either ship the car to you or drive it back.
If you look at the far right of the photograph you'll see a catted downpipe HKS will also bring to market this year. It will feature a 150-cell catalyst.
Agree, it likely won't come cheap. There should be discounts through vendors or direct from Japan once the tariffs settle or go away. I'm keen to see additional photos of the exhaust installed and from different angles. The tips in the photo look really large relative to the OEM tips and look a...
If keeping the weight at or below the OEM exhaust weight is important, you will be challenged to find many stainless steel systems that weigh less. If you're looking to shave weight, go Ti and don't look back. ;)
The exhaust picture shows it has one resonator in the mid-pipe, just like other HKS systems like Legamax and Hi-Power. This is different from other JDM exhausts, like SEEKER (Street Spec), Amuse, FGK, and Kakimoto (Class KR), which have two resonators in the mid-pipe.
You have some time. I believe the exhaust is slated for release in mid-2026. You may want to wait for additional details to be released (price, additional technical specifications, availability). It may also make sense to wait for reviews to surface before moving forward.
