No real pitfalls aside from possibly losing your warranty.
Really? I did see some people saying they had codes but I’m not sure if they had other things done. Is there any data or do y’all have and input on if the engine can still be reliable with this tune? What is standard boost PSI versus this tuned PSI?

You can check my thread, there is a ton of info there. People have gotten codes with stock cars. The car is very sensitive but as far as tune goes there won’t be any issues.

I tuned @PointByPatrol and he has a ton of track time and 0 issues before his accident. Car will be reliable.

Also have other customers running track specific tunes that are more conservative for the harsh environment that the track is.

I am sure this has been discussed somewhere but I cannot find it. Common pitfalls of the tune? Codes? Misfire issues? Any overt negatives about the tune?
I would characterize them as considerations and not "pitfalls" or "overt negatives". Here some things to keep in mind:
  • The issues you see related to CELs largely have little to do with the Hondata Flashpro product and more with how the vehicle was tuned, the hardware (i.e., improper installation, poor quality, incompatibility, etc.) and/or net new variables that were introduced (i.e., poor fuel quality, v-band loosening resulting in a leak, etc.).
  • It's prudent to divorce the Hondata Flashpro from the tune unless you're referring to the OTS maps included with the purchase. You can't blame Hondata for a dodgy tune you receive from a tuner that in turn makes your car run poorly or grenades the engine.
  • The factory Honda powertrain warranty may or may not be impacted by having the car tuned. It's a case-by-case scenario and to some extent dealership dependent. The applicability of the Magnusson Moss Warranty Act has been discussed on internet forums ad nauseaum. Maybe you can invoke that statute, maybe you can't. While it exists as a consumer protection tool, I cannot recall anyone in enthusiast circles who has successfully exercised the provision on a major repair. The conventional wisdom is: if you are concerned about the possibility of a warranty claim being denied due to aftermarket powertrain related modifications, don't touch the car until the powertrain warranty has expired. Simple. It's a question of risk tolerance and your willingness to pay should a warranty claim be denied due to having a tune on the car.
  • The inability to unlock the ECU without removing it from your vehicle is one drawback. Unless you attend a Hondata Jailbreak Tour event you will either need to ship your ECU to Hondata to have it unlocked on a bench and they return it to you, or drive to a tuner who has this capability like IMW.
If any of these considerations are of concern, it's best to pass. I've used Hondata in the past (not on this platform), and had a positive experience. I also shipped the ECU out, no issues. Doug has been at this for over 20 years and Hondata has a good name. This is not a fly by night or pop up operation. I've also had tunes on other platforms and same, no issues. Don't be the guy who hops on the forums butthurt when Honda won't warranty the snapped connecting rod of your Stage II tuned car. Just know what you're in for and align your expectations with reality and you shouldn't have an issue. This is probably more than you bargained for in a response. Anyhow, good luck!

No! I appreciate the responses! I am thinking about doing this and wanted some insight. I wanted to just use hondatas 93 octane tune.

I will probably wait for 6-12 months and see if there is any word about the release of an LE model. If no LE model or no hopes of ever getting it, then I’ll do this.

To the guys worried about sending the ECM out for unlocking, don't be worried. I had to send my BMW ecm to europe to have it unlocked by the ONE person in the world with the ability to unlock it (FEMTO). This is common practice with new BMWs. I had to remove it, box it, schedule international shipping with DHL, kiss it goodbye for a week, and hope there were no issues with customs or the paperwork I had to fill out. No issues. So sending the ECM to another state is absolute cake. I have sent probably 15 ECMs and TCMs to HPTuners (domestic cars) for unlocking as well over the last few years. Also no big deal.

if it's your only car then just send it overnight with an overnight return label in the box and rent a car for 2-3 days. yeah it will cost a little more but you're about to waste a lot more on mods you will have to tune for and never see that money again anyways.

I've had two separate OTS tunes and neither of them have Flat foot shifting working, even though it's checked off as an option.

With the Hondata base maps, it works. anyone else have this issue?

That means it was never enabled, also I don’t recommend ffs. It will put more strain on the transmission.

Verified that it was enabled as an option, and still no go

Why do you say it puts more strain on the trans? It cuts the engine, seems like a pause, you are still using the clutch to disengage/engage the gear

It cuts power to reduce stress on the trans, but still added stress compared to actually letting go of the gas.

Also how did you verify that it was enabled as an option? And I don’t mean clicking on the vendors drop down tab.

Asked the vendor directly
