After reading and watching videos, I'm convinced that removing my front resonator is the right move.

I understand the there a kit to do it, but I'm thinking of seeing if a local shop could just do it. Any reason anyone can think of that I should buy a prefab kit and not just have a muffler shop do it?

Yeah, I went to a local shop and just asked them to delete front resonator. It was done in an hour and something like $150. The sound is definitely deeper and a little louder. It’s what it should have been from new. Not loud enough to please a lot of kids, and maybe the ITS sounds better because it has a different tune, but it works for me. Even get some mild pops when letting off the throttle sometimes. I also pulled the fuse to keep it open full-time.

For most cars you'd want to buy a prefab kit because the shop will most likely use some type of low quality metal to weld or bolt in place to replace the resonator. For louder cars this can be an issue because depending on the type of metal and the diameter it can really throw off the harmonics of the exhaust note and not give a tone you want (some people want a stock sound but just louder). For how quiet these cars are I honestly don't think its that big of a deal because deleting the front resonator won't even make it that loud to where you'd notice a difference.

Having purchased and installed the MRT prefab kit - I can say it made things easier. However if the shop you take your car to can give you 304 stainless and swap out the resonator for less than $200 then I say go for it.

Overall pleased with the resonator delete. It’s not life changing, but definitely makes the car sound better than stock - and it’s way cheaper than a full exhaust (I’ll get around to installing a full exhaust in the future, but have other immediate priorities).

Any issues with check engine lights, performance or any potential for long term problems w/o The front redonator. I'm convinced that's where the ITS gets its sound and extra 5hp from. It's the only mechanical difference in the 2 cars essentially. I figured a shop w/good steel can cut it and put a Vband on its replacement pipe. I have equipment at home where i can sit in my wheelchair and tig weld Vbands on to the deleted resonator just in case.

@DSAINJERSEY no lights. No problems. Just a bit more sound. I used the regular clamps provided - def nothing fancy as a vband.

W/r/t the ITS, it has a different tune coupled with the slightly different exhaust.

I've deleted the main resonator and TIG'd up a 2.5" 304SS pipe in place. I left the front resonator in situ. Very happy with the results. Small weight saving too.
No pops or bangs but it does reveal a nice burble from the outside between shifts.
I imagine deleting both would be quite droney though...

I have been mulling over taking out a resonator. But until I know how it will sound with the downpipe I will wait a bit.

Is MRT the only pre-made kit for the front resonator delete? Is that a good brand? I'd rather buy a kit and have piece of mind that that good quality steel was used.

Thanks!

The best way to guarantee good quality steel is used is to source it yourself. I wouldn't overthink this one. As long as you get a stainless steel and not an alloy steel you'll be fine.

What would you guys say the sound difference is with the MRT front resonator delete? If you had to put a percentage on it?

5-10-15 percent louder?
