I’m actually giving the new M2 a second look, even though I wasn’t a big fan of my f87 M2C.

To each their own, but I think it looks great. If it drives better than the f87, I wouldn’t mind giving it a try, considering that it can probably be had without a markup (like the G80).

Then again, I would still want something slower and lighter like a CTR.

I plan on getting the highest spec LCI model that offers a 6MT. Looks great to me as well.

In Australia, with the carbon seats, the new M2 is $135k plus any other options you want, plus on-road costs.
So it's $150k on the road.
There are too many other great cars at that price to choose from.
Maybe it's more competitively priced in the US/Canada...
But then you'd still have to look at it...

@AlpineBoost, good to see you on here also. Looks like we’ve got the same taste haha. I’m hoping for a CTR as well but not sure I’ll be able to find one in time without an ADM so I’m likely going the M2 route since I’ve secured an MSRP allocation

I wanted to hate it after the first shots leaked. But...I really like this. Boxed flares and a touring-car like presence. Interior is great and I'm a huge fan of the B58 and S58.

3 cons - headlight/taillight combo throws off the whole look, the weight increase is a concern, 1st year owners will likely get screwed with a very quick reactionary facelift from BMW after the amount of internet anger it's causing.

What did you dislike about the F87?

in no particular order:

1. Dead steering. I emphasize dead. Next to zero feel. I can’t imagine anything can be worse.
2. Twitchy af at higher speeds.
3. Small ass gas tank. Very annoying. I’m ok with the mpg for a car as fast as this, but tank should be 15-16 gallons.
4. No dedicated temp gauges. WTF?
5. S55 - Builds boost way too quickly. It’s like there’s this immense surge in power at low end, which then tapers off / plateaus very quickly, which in turn results in little to no acceleration being felt from mid to top end. Wish it felt more linear.
6. Stock shifter was meh.

I can get over most of these, except for the dead steering and lack of overall engagement. Hoping the G87 addresses the steering. The weight, despite being heavy, didn’t bother me all that much, even though I could definitely feel it.

It was a looker though, there’s no denying that…

Same to you ? I really like this CTR as well but haven't put a deposit down so I've put in no effort towards getting one. I'm 20th on the list in Athens for a GRC but who know when they'll get to me. We just got a new Veloster N last month and have a couple other cars, so I'm not in a huge rush for anything but would like to get a new daily for myself sooner rather than later. Hopefully I can get my hands on either a GRC or CTR in the mean time and wait it out for the G87 LCI.

I'm in a weird spot because I've never owned a Honda, though I've always been a fan. I've had Toyota, Mazda, Subaru, but never a Honda. The Type R has been calling to me, and I have been trying to figure out how to snag one.

But, if it goes like I suspect it's going to go, my 2021 WRX is doing me just fine for now. I can wait until the Type R situation clears up a bit and I catch an opportunity. Or I may just wait for Acura to make an Integra Type S and snag that, assuming it's made in higher numbers and is obtainable.

They get great reviews, but I’m guessing that’s cause reviewers drive them hard on a track where the M cars come alive. On the street you can’t get anywhere aggressive enough unless you’re being reckless.

My backup plan was Challenger R/T with manual, but I just found out they won't be making a return in Canada for 2023, possibly only in USA for the last year production. Bummer...

I had a 2019 golf r, if they kept the same interior I would def be getting one. But again those are not easy to get either :p my dealership told me July 2023 at the earliest

I believe the base GTI does not have the infotainment that people seem to hate.

Just checked they actually look the same.

Actually I think you are correct, but my final backup car is the Elantra N, I am not even considering the GTI

The new one weighs 3,815lbs for the manual. 100kg shy of 4,000lbs. Insane. I do think that it looks good though. It reminds me of 80s box flares. Peak power is also higher up in the rev range (by about 1,000rpm), which resolves one of your key criticisms.
