Maybe the 2027 Type R will be a Honda Prelude 👀
I’ve seen rumblings online about that, but I very highly doubt there will be a Prelude Type R. Honda doesn’t put the Type R badge on cars that aren’t 100% worthy of it. The head engineer of the Type R program has said as much.

If someone said Honda is making a Prelude Si? Sure, I could definitely see that happening and it would historically make sense. Just “tune” the electric motors a bit, give it a quicker suspension, add some sporty bits and badges and BOOM, the Prelude Si lives again.

Honestly recently I came across a video on YouTube, an AI video(had to be) took me about a minute to realize it. Except the AWD.
Quite a few AI made videos keep popping up. It sucks

If you follow the timeline of the Type R,

https://hondanews.com/en-US/honda-a...honda-type-r-timeline-and-milestones?hl=en-US

They've officially announced end of Type R sales in EU in 2026

Honda is celebrating the legacy of its iconic Civic Type R with a new ‘Ultimate Edition’ that marks the end of sales for the model in Europe – with 40 units available now across the region, alongside the remaining standard models.

Designed to embody 28-years of hot hatch performance

They've now hinted to the Prelude using Type R components

https://hondanews.com/en-US/honda-a...-advanced-suspension-and-chassis-architecture

I think beyong MY2026 we really won't see one unless its a hybrid drivetrain version.

The Prelude is rumored to have some fancy CVT and new hybrid civic drivetrian, which already has it quicker than a Si 0 to 60.

At least we won't hear people complaining about the "stiff" suspension in a track machine anymore LOL

For decades BMW refused to slap an M badge on anything that didn’t truly earn it, until they finally sold out. Now the badge is on everything that moves because it prints money. AMG followed the same path.

I’m calling it now, there’s going to be a Prelude Type R. Even Best Car Magazine mentioned it a week or two ago, and their track record is rock solid. They’re almost never wrong, and their renderings end up 90-95% accurate every time.

As much as I hate this, I also believe this. At the end of the day, they are a company that needs to make money. If slapping the type r badge makes money, then they'd do it.

But they'd need to make some serious changes to the preludes performance or else its gonna hurt the type r badge

I 100% disagree. Why? Virtually all publications make clickbait now, unfortunately. Gotta drive that web traffic!!! Also, Honda doesn’t need to slap a Type R badge on anything to sell vehicles. They’d have done it LONG ago, if so. Honda has played the game smarter for decades and they have stuck to their successful recipes. Acura has even avoided doing it despite how hard they try to compete with the Germans. They have Type-S and A-Spec. Likewise Honda has Type-R and Si. That said, I could definitely see a Prelude Si in the works. It existed many years ago. It makes sense they’d bring the variant back. Type R will remain reserved for vehicles truly worthy.

Yes the Si makes more sense. Apparently the prelude immediately sold out too in Japan, so the market for them is definitely there. I am sure Honda will play around with a sportier variant/trim for the prelude.
