What do you guys think will happen to values if/when they discontinue? I don’t think these things will double or anything but I do think if you find a good condition, low mileage 23-25/26 type R 10 years from now it will be worth around 40k.
I think will depend on a few things. First, how soon will they announce the next Type R? And then, I think more importantly, will it be hybrid or electric. If electric I think that’ll increase our values dramatically. If it’s a mild hybrid setup, I could see that being the worst case for our value increasing. If it’s a standard hybrid setup, adding a lot of weight, I feel like that would result in an decent increase in value for us too.

I could see that. I would be surprised if they go full electric. Seems like the whole EV craze is pulling back. I know nothing, but most logically I think it will go full hybrid. Then again, the msrp on a new type r 10 years from now, if they will even make them will be 60k+.

I just feel sad for thinking this way. Instead of driving and enjoying the car, you would rather just save the car for the next owner? Why does everyone keep getting stuck on thinking about future value? When I buy a car, I pretty much write it off and never think about selling as if I'm going to drive it until the wheels fall off. I just want to be able to enjoy it to the fullest and not have to think about what it may be worth in the future when I sell it. The minute that I think about devaluing my car for driving/enjoying it is the time I will sell it. IT IS just a Civic after all.

People who don’t take resale value into their vehicle purchases are doing themselves a disservice. When I bought the car it was one where I planned to keep it for a long time. I even bought hondacare for $900 bucks and I never, ever buy the extended warranty’s. Just for the fact that it was a long term purchase for me and the piece of mind to be completely covered for at least 8 years was more than worth it to me.

peoples circumstances can change, decide they like something else, etc. factoring in resale value is not “saving it for the next guy”. It’s the fact that I am strict with money and always look for the best return on my investment. For a depreciating asset like a car, I don’t see how that can possibly be a negative thing.

Im the same way. Retention of value is always a factor I look at while car shopping. I’m certainly not babying this car to keep it nice for the next owner though. Already been to the track and a few autocrosses. Even if it doubled in value, I wouldn’t really change much.

Mind sharing the details on that $900 hondacare? Is that a bumper to bumper warranty for 8 years? Or a maintenance plan?

I bought a titan years ago and had to sell it 3 years later, I never worried about resale value before that. Usaully drove my vehicles into the ground. But now that was a top reason I got the type R over a basic gt mustang. I'm sure would have been cheaper but would have lost more value. I'm suprised the type R has already came down as much as it has.

And I did see a facebook post today for a new type R for 56k in Maryland, with the dealer saying they discountinued the type R. Not that I believe them just yet.

Mine was $900 at the time. Could be slightly more now. Still better than the thousands of dollars the finance guy was trying to get me to sign for.

Finally! An official announcement for the US market! We can put this thread to bed. Good to meet you Mr. Mibe!🤣
Again it’s the end of the line that’s why dealerships aren’t taking deposits and can’t order any more. Honda Japan has already said they can no longer produce the Type R because of strict emission laws in Japan, Europe and UK. It’s over and you guys are beating a dead horse. If I’m wrong I’ll be the first to say it. Crack all the jokes you want I’ll be the one telling you I told you so…😘

There will be no hybrid or electric Type R in the near future. Honda already said they will not build one in either platform. I remember now why I don’t frequent this forum lots of daydreamers

You might be right, Nostradamus, but until it’s official per news from Honda Corp., then the door is still open. You understand that right? The only thing we know right now is that production is ending for Japan and EU. This was officially announced. Do you know more than this? If not, then admit you’re speculating just as much as anyone else here. The problem is you try to pass your information as definitive, but it’s not. Told ya so. 😘😘😘

Lmfao keep smoking that glass 🍆 Riddle me this QuickDraw since Japan makes the Type R who do you think is going to make it? You think they are going to make it for just a couple of markets? The world is changing the ICE combustion engine Type R is finished. And yes I hope and agree that something is probably a few years away but a different platform. If you choose to insult me expect it back 💩🧠🧠🧠🧠

It can still be sold in Japan until July 2026, they stopped taking orders because the demand is so much greater than they can build before that date.
The NA market is very strong. The fact is nobody knows right now. Why would they wait months after announcing no '26 for Europe to announce it here.? Honda could easily sell 10K more FL5 in NA. There are plenty of cars made for only a few markets.
