2025 Civic Type R - No Additions / Changes for 2025

If 2025 is the last year as Honda hinted too, the FL5 will hold its value incredibly well because there will only be the said amount. That said it’s amazing already and Honda had no need to update the looks or tech.

Glad I got an FL5 just like my C7 Z51, last of a dying breed. I’ll never own an electric car and probably the same for hybrid, there’s a better alternative out there and I’m happy to wait. Love my Type R and I’ll keep it as long as I’m physically able.

If the FL5 really is going to be the last pure ICE only Type R, Honda will almost certainly send it out with a special LE version. Until I see the LE (or Honda officially comments) I’m assuming they will keep building this car for a few more years.

I’m keeping mine for a very long time as well. I suspect the FL5 will be a future classic. Even if not, it’s the perfect enthusiast car for me.

The other car we're planning to buy, the Mercedes GLB 250, just got a mild hybrid update for 2024, it replaces the alternator and adds 13 hp burst. I haven't driven it but haven't heard any reviews mention it changes the feel of the car, other than a 1 mpg boost.

I think this is what Honda will do with the next Type R, 2.0L turbo with mild hybrid. I'm sure Honda can keep the weight to a minimum with no effect on driving fun.

Hybrids are pretty heavy. I am thinking that is why they made R+ mode so hardcore in the FL5. Going to be hard to make a car feel this toss able when weighing close @ 3700 - 4000 pounds.

I'm keeping mine and enjoying it daily.

My guess is they don’t make an LE, 25 is the last run and the integra type s sticks around for 26 and 27 with a slight refresh. (think 2020 FK8).

FK8 was in production from 2017-2021. I'd expect the FL5 to remain in production till the final year of the 11th gen base Civic which will probably be 2027.

We're not talking about hybrids, but mild hybrids. The 2024 GLB didn't gain any weight, as far as I can tell. Typically a mild hybrid system is 20-30 lbs.

I heard a bunch of folks saying FY25 will be the last. But there is really no need with EURO emission rules being pushed back. You see more automakers giving second life to ICE. Honda has a very successful portfolio, the FL5 is the “halo” enthusiast vehicle. Honda will build as many and as long as it can.

For comparison, look at the c8, LC500, 911s all with ICE and many with N/A engines that people thought would have a short life. As much as we love the scarcity and sense of urgency game, I can see the FL5 lasting a few more years. And if it does end production, I expect Honda making an announcement with some lead way and ensuring people who have been holding back can still buy one (drawing comparison with the ICE 718s and giving people 1+ year advance notice to buy them)

Just an interesting update.

A friend who is a tech for a local Honda said this,

“No 2026 in the catalog for parts. Parts gets updated service stuff ahead of time. Lower trims are there. Nothing for type r”
