Anyone that has had the steering recall fix, please let us know if the repair corrected the problem.

I guess Honda is hoping only a small percentage of them are badly deformed, in which case the current fix will take care of the majority of others. For those who run into the problem again, because the gear is badly deformed, then perhaps the rack will be replaced (and would have the fix already implemented within). Just have to wait and see.i don't see how the recall would fix the deformed worm gear. might delay the issue. i wonder if those who had replacement racks installed already will run into the same problems. my original failed at 18k miles. i'm at 15k miles on the replacement rack and it's ok so far

I worry about this. That the gear is damaged and could break while driving. It looks like its plastic. Not sure how well a plastic gear holds up if not lubricated properly against a metal worm gear.i don't see how the recall would fix the deformed worm gear. might delay the issue. i wonder if those who had replacement racks installed already will run into the same problems. my original failed at 18k miles. i'm at 15k miles on the replacement rack and it's ok so far

I have not received an official letter in the mail but have received the notice within Hondalink.Have any USA Type R owners received the recall notice by mail?
I've seen nothing.
I have NOT received a letter as of yet. I have a notification in my Hondalink app. I feel like I have the issue pretty much all the time. On center adjustments feel notchy all the time. The wheel doesn't move smoothly and exiting a curve when the wheel comes back to center again feels notchy. Not a smooth rotation.I have not received an official letter in the mail but have received the notice within Hondalink.
i thought all the gears were made of resinI worry about this. That the gear is damaged and could break while driving. It looks like its plastic. Not sure how well a plastic gear holds up if not lubricated properly against a metal worm gear.
that's not what they said before the recall was released. they said the worm gear had a manufacturing defect that caused it to deform after so many heat cycles. guess it's magically not an issue anymore now they have this recall. probably trying to save money by not replacing tens of thousands of EPS gearboxes/racks.The worm gear is fine. The spring was strong and the pressure would cause the gear to squeeze out the grease. In the new fix the inject a TON of new grease and a revised spring. Should be fine.
