Had a dealer call me today about a black type r they have coming and they’re offering MSRP but want a deposit. The previous person who put a deposit on it dropped out. I already have a deposit on a 2024 G80 M3 so I’m not going do it. I say that to say it’s possible to get MSRP if you’re patient.

If they actively reached out to you to offer MSRP, it sounds like they're struggling to sell Type Rs. Looks like the market is finally softening.

Market is softening, but I don’t think this particular case is really a true example of that. MSRP sales (no forced add-ons, no ADM, no under-valued trades) are still rare for desirable vehicles. Anyway…this case could simply be a matter of a planned sale falling thru and the dealership needing to pick up the pieces quickly. That’s what it seems like to me…but you never know.

Picked up a BB FL5 Type R last night for $1K over (Western, NY). This dealership initially started at $10K ADM but with a certified used 23' CW sitting in the showroom and an incoming 24' on the way, they knew it was better to move inventory and make any end of year sales/commission.

It was a 23'. I don't think dealers have a 24' sitting in the showroom rn but they will be soon. The dealership I bought mine from got theirs on Nov 23rd. I'm so happy I didn't act impulsively on their higher ADM offer during Thanksgiving weekend.

Based on experiences like yours, it sounds like same time next year we'll be getting 2024s for MSRP (maybe even a little under if we're lucky).

I had an out-of-state dealer offer 52.5k otd. I'm having a hard time calculating the markup as he said there's a $2100 mandatory fee for floor mats and wheel locks + some interior/exterior treatment. There's $3300 in tax and another $1200 in TTL, which this part seems high. So there's at least 2100 in add-ons plus whatever misc fees are included in the 1200 TTL. What do you guys think about this?

EDIT: this is a '24 model

What color? - That will affect the calculation.

Since the MSRP is $45,890, you can calculate the markup thusly:

OTD Price: $52,500
MSRP: $45,890
Mandatory Add-Ons: $2,100
Taxes: $3,300
TTL Fees: $1,200

To calculate the dealer's selling price before taxes and fees:

Dealer’s Selling Price = OTD Price − (Taxes + TTL Fees)
= $52,500 − ($3,300 + $1,200)
= $52,500 − $4,500
= $48,000

Now, to get the markup over the MSRP:

Markup = Dealer’s Selling Price − MSRP
= $48,000 − $45,890
= $2,110

This markup of $2,110 includes the mandatory add-ons. Without these add-ons, the markup would be:
= $2,110 − $2,100
= $10

So, the markup is $10, assuming the add-ons are mandatory and your color choice is "free". Otherwise, change the MSRP and recalculate.

Request an itemized pricing worksheet. Most dealerships are using the same or similar software so it should be standard issue. The bottom portion of the worksheet will have the charges broken out similar to below.

Market Value Selling Price
Doc Fee
Taxes
Non Tax Fees
Cash Deposit
Balance

If it's still not clear, ask them to get more granular.
