Added another line to the purchases. Total markup average across the board is around 7.7k, 8.5k if I remove the dealer ($0 markup) sale.

Would you mind disclosing the dealership?

Absolutely do not buy a Si, best to hold out for the best deal u can possibly get on a FL5. Next month dealerships will be a lot more willing to budge on the ADM
If you can get a SI for MSRP it might be worth it considering it's probably worth 31k trade in am i right?

It will be worth that if it has less than a couple thousand miles on it by the time he goes to trade it in, but I'm sure by that time used car values will be down further than they're already trending down now.

The depreciation will not be worth it if he can wait another 4-6 weeks.

This, if you buy like a cheap Miata or older Civic you could drive it for 2-3 months and sell it for what you paid.

Definitely do not buy a new car only to trade in later. Used car prices are already taking a hit. Next year is only going to get worse. Buy a reliable, in demand used car, to minimize losing money, like my 99 Camry! Lol

as a family man, this car really is a FWD alternative to the M3, Blackwing, RS5. Getting those cars new at MSRP is hard enough and many are knocking on $100k. For under $100k, there's not a lot that realy competes with the CTR if you want: manual, performance, utility. you can do better if you only want performance (SS1LE), or utility (take your pick). I do think if the CTR were to really stay priced at $70k (don't expect it to)
I agree with what you said for the most part. However, new M3’s can be easily had at MSRP if you’re willing to wait 3-6 months for delivery. A base RWD M3 in Alpine White can be had for $73,795 with a manual transmission and no options (which is ironically the “enthusiast spec” I would choose).

It ticks the boxes you outlined: manual, performance, utility. Having said that, it’s not as lightweight as the CTR and probably less fun to drive.

But most people don’t think like us enthusiasts. They can’t imagine paying M3 money for a FWD Civic with 150 less hp. I too am having a hard time justifying it. While I do think that the CTR is a more engaging, nimble, and fun experience, I just don’t know if I could ever drop M3 money on it.

I’m not good at articulating this point, so let me say it like this:

I can easily afford either car, but not both. At $40-50k, I would prefer to drive a new CTR over the M3. At around $70k, I would prefer to drive a new M3, even though I may generally still prefer the CTR overall.

Regardless, the mere fact that a CTR is being cross-shopped with an M3 is a win-win for Honda.

I some what agree. I am also at a point in my life where my kids are older (one drives, ones about to be) so I do not NEED a 4 door or a 4 seater. So I've started cross shopping the new Z, Supra, Blackwing, Golf R, maybe even a GT350.

I'm a die hard Honda guy and have been my whole life. It's sad that dealers greed are forcing me away from the brand. I am just not willing to pay 5-25K markup. I my mind I just can't justify 50K+ for Civic, I do not care how nice it is. Also, at that price point there are so many fast/fun cars.

The one thing on my side is time, I do not NEED a car and can wait a while to see where the market goes. Waiting paid of when looking for an FK8 as I paid MSRP, I maybe able to pull that off again once the initial hype dies down.

It's a shame what dealers are allowed to do to these car brands. With news of the new Integra Type S coming next year, I may have more resolve to hold out and wait to find a great deal on a Type R, and potentially just end up with the Type S.

Yep I'm getting 32k for my 22 SI with 9k miles on trade in. But I agree I think the used car values are going to decline in the next 2-3 months.
Yeah, they have already started. I am looking for a couple project cars and over the last 2 months I've watched prices slowly start to decline and they are sitting longer before selling.

It's basically the change I saw in the housing market 6 months ago

Used market seems about to implode along with housing. This is where highly levered dealers may go bust and there will be mass consolidation and bankruptcy. Consider it the proverbial pendulum swing.
