It's still wild that you were right behind the incident while it was happening! That had to have been incredibly scary!
I had just passed the flag station on the left, started down the hill and shifted my focus to the braking markers when the smoke from the tires caught my eye. They completely disappeared in the smoke and it was so dense I couldn't see the track ahead and I couldn't see them hit the tire wall but I was sure they could not have made the turn so I got hard on the brakes not knowing where they ended up. When I got to the top of the turn I could just make them out through the smoke with the air bags covering the windows. I just felt sick because they were going so fast when they disappeared into the smoke, just not slowing down quickly from the 130-140ish they were probably doing. They are nice guys, I hope the don't have concussions or other injuries because the G forces had to have been immense. But thank god for modern safety equipment and softer barriers.

Could not have happened without some type of ABS failure.

Hans devices and 5 point harnesses saves their lives and kept them concussion free. Just a lot of soreness for the next few weeks. Bad news was that they didn't have track insurance. $350 bucks spent could have saved them 40 grand.

Just a note on that, and this is NOT grand standing:

I've never raced without track insurance, and I never will, no matter how much my personal skills improve. You are not on track by yourself, and all of us will eventually try to push a limit, and possibly find out the hard way that the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

I will NEVER race again without a HANS device. I witnessed several crashes while at the track and sat around like a sheep thinking, "that's expensive, it doesn't improve my car, and I'll be fine". WRONG. Sucking it up and pay the price. We have an expensive hobby that isn't worth losing our lives over. Plus you could be on the track with 50 people with unknown mechanical issues, unknown skill sets, and unknown track knowledge, and they are equally capable of taking you down in the process.

Simpson Racing Hybrid S is the only one rated for 3 point belts. Which HANS do you have, where did you get it and are they hard to fit?

Simpson Racing Hybrid S is the only one rated for 3 point belts. Which HANS do you have, where did you get it and are they hard to fit?
I have a hybrid S, They are easy to fit, and come with instructions (you will need a buddy to assist you), I got mine from @Two Step Performance

I 100% agree, also now that you instruct you will be jumping into different cars, some with 3 point, some with 5 point and the hybrid S is a MUST. I would not sit in a harnessed car without a hans, less needed for a 3 point and some will say not needed but with my minimal understanding of physics I still conclude that it could save your life or make your next weeks after a crash MUCH better.
I wish simpson came out with a cheaper version because $1100 is a lot and could see a lot more hans on 3 point belts if they came out with a version that cost half the price (get rid of the carbon fiber basically). Also the simpson hans are great cuz they also protect side to side movement.
People focus too much buying useless crap that won't make em any faster but should really get hans as soon as they think they will be at the track a few times a year. Its a small investment.

Cage and harnesses and fire supression also super important but the investment on that is crazy.

As far as insurance I also always get it, I have seen too much shit happen, just last week there were 3 crashes and an electrical fire. And yeah people crashing into you and not even your fault.

I dunno why i did this today but I looked what it would be like to insure a GT4RS lol, a staggering $1800 a track day lol

another thing that probably good to try on but I went by their chart and it fit perfectly.

pro tip, they do this black friday sale where you buy a a gift card and they throw 20% more in, so I bought a $1000 gift card and got $1200 credit, waited a few weeks then bought the Hybrid S for $1000 instead of $1200.

And yeah hybrid S is the only one that works on 3 point belts

I also have the Simpson hybrid S. Sometimes Simpson will run a sale. That’s when I bought mine from OG racing and they just matched the discount. I had to get 2 different sizes to make sure I got the right size.

If you can afford a GT4RS then 1800 is pocket change! You make an excellent point on investment. I just bought a spoiler for 3g's, which is STUPID for something that will have a negligible effect. This just proves that we spend dumb money on frivolous things on our cars without considering the pile of ground beef behind the wheel! Be the whole cow friends! Not the grenaded version!

I have been buying track insurance since my second event and I enjoy my time on the track more because I am not as stressed.

I have been buying track insurance since my second event and I enjoy my time on the track more because I am not as stressed.
X1000. Wrecks are scary enough from a health perspective. Worse to add loss of vehicle too.

I'm glad you all gave some reading to do on hybrid hans devices. It's on my list for the winter. I don't think it's overkill on a car with 3-point belt. Helmets weigh a lot and if I can absorb some/most of the head/spine movement it's a win. Appreciate all the info posted and ways to save some money buying one.
