I like this thread. One day if I can have the space, this is something I would like to have.

For you guys that actually do track days. What’s missing other than some feedback and adrenaline rush, when doing sim racing?
I agree with @BigBird on what you lose but what you gain is what's more important to me.

Basically it helps build a solid base set of skills that other wise will take years to develop IRL.

A good watch from this kid that went from sim racing to racing and recently won a radical season against some pretty accomplished drivers

same here. I wish i had the time and funds to go more often, but I would classify it as training for sure: Throttle/brake inputs, steering wheel, apex, etc.

Even in the daily GT7 races, once you don't race against aspiring Sennas, you do get some of the adrenaline rush and work on your racecraft. I do mostly the timed laps, but I'm still slow. It's just good fun for me as I never am on the pointy end...I'm just above average.
This is what I'm after. Basics, and more basics. Plus learning tracks before I burn $1200/weekend to be there in person!

yeah its worth it for learning the line alone. Getting to a new track and not having to spend the first session learning the track is awesome

one of the biggest things I missed that sim doesn't capture are elevation changes. Like Roller Coaster at VIR. When I had iRacing, I could not do it at all, it probably was the reason I quit paying and using iRacing.

My brain couldn't figure it out, and I couldn't really feel the car getting light, like up the esses, or the forces in NASCAR/T4 section, etc. Others do it perfectly fine without issues, so I've accepted that I'm just slow in multiple aspects of life ?

Thanks guys. So if I cancel my trip to VIR, I can have a good sum racing setup.
haha you could definitely get a nice setup with a 3 day weekend VIR trip but if you told me. 30k sim rig and never be able to go to the track again Id pass and be ok never doing sims again.

That said, in winter up in the northeast, being able to drive some fun tracks is a blessing

The VR setup just saves the monitor space?

more immersive, lets you see more around you which is important for racing and saves space. Negatives is you need a beefier pc, its uncomfortable and hot, some people get sick, its a bit more of a pain to setup

I really want to try VR. I also occasionally get sucked into Euro Truck simulator and want to try that in VR ?

Just thinking of what I can reuse. I eventually want to remove my bucket seats from my S2000 and put in regular seats. Can I use my bucket seat for this?

I get super motion sick on basically everything. I had to work my way to feeling ok on VR. It was definitely not a one day thing, took about 3 weeks or so, anywhere from 1 minute day to then a couple.

Ginger candy, a fan, and using open top cars on level tracks helped get me acclimated. I can do about 30-40 minutes now with a fan blowing air at me. i get tired anything longer than that anyway.
