I'm glad you all gave some reading to do on hybrid hans devices. It's on my list for the winter. I don't think it's overkill on a car with 3-point belt. Helmets weigh a lot and if I can absorb some/most of the head/spine movement it's a win. Appreciate all the info posted and ways to save some money buying one.
+1 for the Hybrid S - I've been using it for a few years now and won't go back to even a regular HANS unless it's necessary for a specific setup - the Hybrid S to me is far more secure. I've had a regular HANS slide out from under the belts in a 6-pt/racing seat during endurance racing which is scary thinking about what would happen in a crash - I don't see that happening with a Hybrid S, and obviously a Hybrid S is the only one that will work with a 3-pt.

I also go full fire suit for any track time - I have it, so it seems silly not to wear it.

someone was just discussing that on reddit, someone said he would not go on track without a fully caged car, 6 point harness, hans and full fire suppression system. They are not wrong but as someone said it would kill the hobie so quick, basically alienate what? 95% of track goers. I think on a modern car that is mostly stock its a pretty safe hobbie, its when you start modding it a ton that things could get hairy.

This video is always on my mind though and I see him at track days all the time too, his license plate on his corvette says manonfyre ro something like that. Warning, is a tough watch but also a great watch

it won't let me post the video here but link here

Modern cars are very safe, although not necessarily designed for track speeds admittedly. I think there's more of a valid point there though when you think of cars from the late 80s/early 90s that you still see on track a lot (Miatae especially come to mind), compounded with what you are sharing the track with (150+ mph 4000lb ZL1s, etc).

That said, ya Mark's experience is quite eye opening. I was already wearing fire suits on track before that incident but I take it more seriously now and I now go full nomex balaclava as well which I used to skip for some reason.

Crazy enough, Mark was instructing over the weekend and his student crashed the car with a brake failure

also I completely forgot to mention this, close your helmets people. I mean fire yes but something flew into my car and hit the helmet, not sure if it was the side or the front and I can't find it in the car but glad it was closed, getting hit with anything in your face going 80mph does not sound fun
(ask my windshield that now has a decent sized couple scratchs right in the middle also from last track day)

I also always wear a balaclava but admittedly its because it keeps the helmet cleaner but I guess protect one of my best assets ;)

I was there, was last wednesday at lime rock, brake failure, pretty nuts. Was the craziest day I ever experienced on track. 2 crashes, 1 car had electrical fire and 1 car I believe broke a control arm and so many more spins that I ever seen. I think was a combo last day at lime rock park + fantastic weather

It's every single time! I did go to one event where there were 0 wrecks, but there were 3 car fires instead....lol

The light is normal I get it all the time, it stays on the entire session for me.
...
Just curious, does anyone else get the "Brake System" light to pop on intermittently on track? In searching around it sounds like others do (hence my quote of this post), but what is actually triggering it? I see some people claim it's a temp warning - is this correct? Is there actually a sensor somewhere?

Happens to me too, usually after 2 laps. I would imagine there is a temp sensor in the HECU.

Thanks! I was reading back through this thread and saw others mention it as well - good to know nothing's wrong with my car lol (at least not because of this). I'm surprised more people don't talk about this including the reviewers, I thought there was an actual issue the first time it popped on.

There are still a lot of folks that are at a novice skill level that likely don't get the system that hot.

ie: lift and coast

some do mention it, but yeah, doesn't happen to most driving at a slower pace.

also like the profile pic update ;)
