I'm not sure how this is real but later this afternoon Andy Pilgrim is driving my Type R for 3 laps to help me improve my line and suggestions on car setup. He was at our tack event yesterday afternoon and all day today. He is in town for the 30th anniversary of the Corvette museum next week. What are the chances ? I'm a little giddy about it ?

Well that was amazing. Such good perspective to see what our cars are capable of. It was as if Andy was just going for a ride down the interstate ? He said he used to have a Type R and is thinking of getting another. Hopefully this convinced him! He brought up the nannies (I am running in R mode no pedal dance) and he thought there was easily another 3 seconds without them. 2:24 lap time.

My next session out after my ride along I knocked 3 seconds off just by adjusting a few lines and adding perspective.

What a nice dude ?

THats pretty cool. I had to look him up lol, very accomplished. Nothing like going out with someone who is a better driver than you (and specially a pro driver) to really see what a car can really do. The dude was not even pushing the car I bet

Yea he has a lot of Corvette c5r factory experience along with imsa for almost a decade. Took 4 or 5 podiums at lemans for Corvette racing. And some Nascar road courses sprinkled in ?

I felt a few oh shit moments but reminded myself he's not even driving it hard.. I give the guy credit for hoping in and out of student cars a few dozen times in the 95 degree heat!

total track day noob question but I would like the groups opinions!

in a bit of a predicament here trying to decide what wheel and tire setup to run for an upcoming track day this week at mid-ohio.

i have a set of the OEM 19in wheels with OEM PS4S with like 3k miles on them. i also have a set of 18x9.5 +45 Advan RS3’s with brand new 265/35/18 Continental DWS06+ installed.

the only reason i am even considering running the advans and all seasons on the track is because the forecast for that day calls for rain, and i’m i'd like to think the all seasons will perform better in the wet than the PS4S.

this obviously isn’t a race, just a fun time to be on track so i’m not going for record breaking laps or anything, but a benchmark for future track days would be nice.

any thoughts and opinions from experienced track dayers would be appreciated!

PS4S all the way. If it's wet you'll be good. If I was expecting rain on a track day I'd swap to the PS4S on my stock wheels. If there are sections of standing water (heavy downpour) just reduce pace. Your instructor will help a lot (if you have one?) Tracks seem to drain well, so a wet track would be different from standing water say on the interstate IMO.

The PS4S tires are suitable for wet weather driving. I've gone out on track a few times in the rain with pilot sports.

@blackert are you running with PCA Mid-Ohio? Can you post back your experience with them? I plan on running with PCA Ohio Valley in October but always like to have feedback on the different clubs.

no, this event is just an open test and tune i registered for through the mid-ohio website which i think they do once a month.

i don’t have any PCA experience at this time, but getting in there for more track experience would be cool.

Btw I drained 0w20 after 1500 miles and a 2 day track event. Oil was a little sparkly. Ugh. I hope it's just new engine break in? Second oil change and 6600 miles total. I am moving up to 0w30 and a thicker 30 weight based on 2 days of bob is the oil guy "research" ?
I would bump it up to 5w-30

I will at my next oil change. I was happy with both temp and pressure this weekend which was a nice surprise. I plan on changing again before my next event at end of September.

+1 on the PS4, the only time the all seasons would be better than the PS4S is if was cold out and by that I mean like under 40, the PS4S are excellent in the rain.

Question about transmission fluid: Changing once a season should be fine right? Going with either redline or AC Delco.
