What’s the most miles you’ve seen or heard about on a Type R? FK8 or FL5?

I just got reassigned at work but have to give up my take home vehicle for it. So the commute is 50 miles each way,
100 miles a day
500 miles a week
2000 miles a month
24,000 miles a year

Kinda in the head space that if I love what I drive to and from work, and I love what I do at work, then go to a home I love… then who cares the cost.

Although I will go with harder tires probably lol

Anyone else rack up crazy miles on their type r?

Try @VPMotors or @Drew30101. If they still have their cars and driving habits didn't change they should be well over 40k miles. I recall they were leading the charge for mileage some time ago.
Was thinking about some 18x8.5 rims for commuting then switch to OEM rims with sticky tires for track days.
Wonder if that inch will make a difference in MPG since it’s less friction

What is your concern exactly? Mileage diminishing resale value? Reliability?

Personally, I think it’s not worth worrying about. Life is such a crapshoot that I think it’s best to eek out as much enjoyment as we can, within reason of course. If you enjoy the drive, I say look at it as an opportunity to spend more precious time behind the wheel!
Money can always be remade, but time can only be recaptured with a Flux Capacitor and a shitload of electricity.

As for mileage, I’ve got 15k trouble free miles on mine.

You're chasing nickles around the dollar. Going from 19x9.5 wheels to 18s won't materially move the needle.

There are two schools of thought here: 1) Drive the car, that's what you bought it for. This car can be daily driven which is part of the allure. It's a commuter car not a LaFerrari; 2) Keep heavy mileage off the car and add an incredibly fuel efficient beater to the fleet like an old(er) Pruis or Civic if the budget allows.

Consider running costs, resale value, and accelerated wear and tear. If these items aren't much of a concern, the choice of what to do should be an easy one.

Hi,

Just under 70,000 miles here in a 23 Type R delivered Dec 22. I bought this car to be my daily driver weekend warrior. I do not compete in track days as it is my daily so my wear and tear may be less than others.

Currently I have an intake, downpipe with charge pipes with a Phearable stage 2 tune since 25,000 miles.

I would say the maintenence cost are decent given its a performance car. In the time I've had the car im on my 3rd set of tires. The ps4s are rated for 30k miles and I've gotten around that mark each time. The torque vectoring system can wear down your back break pads quickly when in full r mode. Im on my fourth set of rear break pads and second set of front. I used to daily drive it in "R" mode, made the adjustment to individual with the suspension on comfort and that seemed to help with the wear. Tires and brake pads the highest maintained expense at this helped combat that some.

Does the daily driving the R cost more than you average economy car in maintenence cost? Of course but with the reliability of Honda, and the joy I get every time I drive it makes the decision easy for me.

One of my clients puts about 30k miles a year on his 2024 FL5 Type R and the tuned 2019 FK8 he traded in to get the FL5 had 175k miles. His only issue was the coolant expansion tank leaking which was replaced with a Mishimoto unit. These cars are reliable for the most part, especially if it's going to 90% highway miles.

If you're concerned about resale value then best to get a cheap fuel efficient commuter but otherwise, drive it and enjoy it

If you live where they don't salt the roads then I'd be fine with driving that many miles. In the northeast the rust would kill it.

At my current rate driving to work, getting kids to school, and seeing my GF, I should hit 30k+ a year if I drove it year long. But I have an FA5 with 320k as my winter beater. I'll get some 18s to put some longer lasting tires on the R in the future, but I guesstimate with the FA5 taking some daily duties my annual mileage will be closer to 20k.

I used to have one of those commutes when I lived up north. It grinded on me over the years. One bad night of sleep or late night out after work and the next day drive felt very long! LOL! I now have a 5 mile commute roundtrip. I mainly ride my sportster to the office now.

Thank you guys! I think I’m just going to daily it and enjoy it. Goal is 200k miles.

Selling it and getting a boring hybrid for an extra 10 mpg doesn’t sound fun either.

I have a diesel truck as the “beater” lol don’t need a 3rd vehicle lol
