I prefer 18's because I track the car and want a tire with a higher side wall. I tracked on the 19's and damaged them on the curbing the very first time I went to track, which is something that could have been avoided by running on 18's. My choice is for purpose, not appearance though.

Yeap but most people also don’t track their cars so don’t get the full advantage of having a taller sidewall setup and variety on size to play around with. But I also think that Honda hit a home run with the 19” rather than those 20 on the previous gen if you don’t have bad streets also 19” aren’t a bad choice even if you’re lowered. But this is like the oil you use and the break-in every one has a different opinion on what is the proper weight and break-in millage. Never will be a straight answer ever people will have their own choice for what they think is right.

The car is designed for 19 inch wheels that's why it looks weird with 18s slapped on. I use 18s purely for the tire prices and you can achieve a middle ground to your liking whether it's for looks or driving style. The FK8 had a 20inch design diameter so you can imagine the discussions about everyone slapping on 18s on that.

Given the fact that you mentioned you don't drive often in the snow is there a reason you didn't consider a quality A/S on the stock wheels ?
I thought I could both see what 18's look like on the car and save a little on the tire due to the size difference. Next year I'll probably do what you mentioned above.

So I think part of what you're missing here is that your 18x8.5 +38's will not have the same appearance as the wider wheels that most folks use (for summer purposes) because the face of the wheel on yours will be sunken in a good deal compared to those wheels.

If you want to get a good idea of what those wheels would look like in a wider spec, you would need to run something close to a 25mm spacer all around.

Even that wouldn't be enough though, because those other options are a taller than OE tire, and you went for something close to OE tire diameter.

Calculator comparison below, with 285/35R18 on 18x10+40 on the left, and your 235/40R18 on 18x8.5+38 on the right.

Note where each setup sits in relation to the fender edge:

Yeah, just do what looks good to you. I prefer the 18 with more tyre of the 35s. It reminds me of the NSX examples I saw in Japan with a meaty tyre and TE37s. Totally sold me on smaller wheels with wider and fatter tyres. Euros seem to go more for the painted on tyre look with massive wheels that make the rotors look small. Not my favourite look but I can see why some people like it.

Unless the car is slammed (and as a by-product ride quality compromised) 18's just look small. That being said are 285's really needed on this car ? The law of diminishing returns has to take over at some point no ?

No, 285 and 295 (sometimes even reverse stagger) are used almost exclusively on track cars too (unless class rules say otherwise)

Track sure BUT for a daily/street you have to admit they are simply overkill.

No, because that is entirely subjective. You may have a much lower threshold for "ride quality", street grip, and/or looks, and thats ok too. This whole thread is subjective.

I get that part, I was using a 10mm spacer on the oem wheels to get the look I wanted after lowering and it helps a lot with how the car looks from a tucked/flush perspective. I don't know if that would change my perception of how the diameter of the wheel looks in the wheel well though, that's my main issue.

18's make the car look more 'old school' in a way, and I get people like the smaller wheel look, but I don't think it fits the proportions of the rest of the car.

I assumed that because of all of the god spec talk an 18 would look good but it just doesn't fit imo. Even from my long range shots from a full side view where the offset won't matter too much I think they look too small. I wanted to make the post as a counter to the 'god spec' idea as I think people should see some cars with 18's IRL before buying them as I thought they looked great in pics, and I think mine do too, but in person I'm not a fan.
