500hp cars don’t make that much torque down low. Its a byproduct of a bigger turbo, its not about the numbers but more of when the power happens. If its lower than 4k it builds up a lot of cylinder pressure.
Phearable has a great reputation- not worried about it.

Awesome dude! Congrats on the tune, I’m not saying it will blow up just giving a word of caution. Regardless of how good the tune is, driving habits and the physics of an engine play a big role.

Oh yessss. 3rd gear is a beast. Hondata + tsp. Transformed the whole car.

Finally they are coming to my area. Money is ready ?
Yeah they'll be in my area at the Honda Heritage center as well. Trying to decide if I want to do the Hondata tune then since it'll be easy, or wait to see if more companies come out with a cheaper option.

The reason that product competition is limited in the platform is that Hondata has a very good product. It would be hard for somebody else to come in and offer the same level of quality for less. Honestly its priced really well, the only gripe for me is the ECU jailbreak. But no going around through that since those Bosch ecu’s are all the same regarding unlocking. I would jump on it because nothing will come out to compete.

From what I understand, a jailbreak is the first step to any sort of tune... so even if you don't go with a Hondata tune, having them in-person to perform the jailbreak sure beats mailing the ECU and waiting for it to come back.

Cheaper options are unlikely. Working out all of the hardware and software available for flashing the FL5 ECU is a big undertaking for what is ultimately a limited number of cars. It is likely that Hondata will be working a long time to recoup the money they have already invested. I am not aware of any other options coming to the US market.

Good to know, sounds like I'll be going to that event to get that done then!

I wish there was a more expensive option that wasn't as locked down as Hondata is. My understanding is that Hondata has some pretty substantial limitations on fueling and vtc tables / functionality. It would be nice if there was a more expensive system for those looking for a more advanced tune (and running different fueling setups, etc.).

At this point I would call it underdeveloped rather than locked down. Hondata is still working things out. We typically see a bit more access with each release. All in due time I suppose.

There is a more expensive option, you can do Motec and have all the tuning flexibility you want.

And when you buy their $5K engine management solution, don't forget to buy their exhaust to go with it.;)

Well , yeah... a middle ground would be nice ?
It would be but these newer cars with CAN bus communications are very complex. So the chances of a cheaper option coming out is limited. Just give Hondata time, they will keep adding functions and features. Also the Bosch ecu is very complex, but some new features could easily added like Bootmod3 in the bmw’s. The problem I see is that the type R is so limited that it might not be worth from a business standpoint to add a few features which would require so many hours of work.

I think Motec would be the only way to go if you really want functionality.
