something's probably wonky in the shifter or linkage. i'd start at the gearbox and see if you can manually get it into first by moving the shift fork around. if you can, it's something in the linkage or shifter.

OP hope you get the car seen by the dealership, as you're clearly within the warranty and it sounds like something is off. Curious to hear what they find

Start from second and then shift it into first from a stop. Should synchronize the gears.

I appreciate you trying to help, but that is literally addressed in the second sentence of the first post, and many other details have been shared in this thread as well.

Did you ever get it checked out at the dealership?

ive got a 22 si 37k miles and let me tell you, driver error is present in this transmission LMAO. first manual so im "still" learning but yeah ill be dead stop and 1st gear will not engage, itll throw back out of 3rd sometimes. 2nd gear is spongey. its a mess....... user error 100000%. i got a hyrbrid short throw on standby and hopefully a fk8 retro clutchkit soon. but i aint changing nothing out till the car gives up.

Well, I have an interesting update. I just got back and decided to try something I thought of... I downshifted without the clutch from 2 to 1 at around 10 mph and it grinded its way in. Now it works perfectly fine altogether... Not a damn clue how that works lol. Still gonna take it to the dealer tomorrow, but I have a feeling they won't do anything if they can't reproduce it.

You shouldn’t be downshifting to 1st on anything over 5mph. It auto locks - its been said. I got the shot call that OP is trolling - yup. Again, call BS.

I don't doubt the OP for a second lol

For how good these transmissions feel they sure seem to have their issues. My guess is a small chunk of synchro broke off and jammed between two discs, locking you out. Forcing the shift spun them up and worked it out. Hopefully that's the last you hear of it and it has no further effect.

My buddy’s ‘95 Prelude had a sychro problem with 1st gear. He had to do the exact same thing ; Grind it into 1st down from 2nd every time. At the time, I guess 1st gear sychro problems were somewhat common with the Prelude, so he didn’t have to argue too much to get Honda to fix it.

I’ve never heard of anyone having this issue with their FL5’s, but it doesn’t mean it can’t. My valves were over-tightened from the factory. It set off a random CEL twice before they figured out what was going on. Stuff happens. These cars are built on an assembly line, not slooooowly and meticulously, one by one, to perfection, like Rolls Royces.
