I had the 2nd gear grind on my FK8 and for fwiw I tried everything n couldn't fix. First tried to adj the clutch pedal, then remove CDV, tried the acuity shifter bushing in the engine bay, upgraded to Emmanuel's modded CMC, changed the trans fluid to amsoil , the last thing I tried was the acuity full shifter set up. I even tried to take it to the dealership to report the issue. Right before I got to the dealership I did a fast shift n it grinded. But once the service manger hopped in the car I couldn't dup it. Asked if I had a video it would have made a difference he said no. But he said even if I did dup it its not like one grind they wouldn't just tear down the trans of a brand new car to see if there was an issue. He said they would just document it down. If I had issues down the road they would do something. Idk if he was just BS but coming from having and clutch issue with my old Mazda speed 6 I kind of believed him. I had to go to 3 dealership to find one that cared enough to help me out. I know flying gato was able to get his FK8 2nd gear grind fixed, just all depends if the dealership are d bags or not. I ended up just selling the car with a few thousand miles on it cus the grinding of the gear really killed the experience for me. Good luck with yours hope it can be fixed.

Of all the gears, 1st to 2nd shift feels the slowest. By that I mean there seems to be a natural resistance in the shifter that keeps me from shifting quickly between 1st and 2nd. Do you feel like you are forcing it when you shift and get the grind? If so, just slow it down a bit, no prizes being won trying to save a tenth of a second.
Yeah I can 2nd this. Going from 1st to 2nd does feel weird compared to the other 2 manual cars I've ever owned. Im used to it now but I remember when I was driving around for the first time I got how people had 2nd gear issues

What are the odds that Honda is aware of this?

To me its graby like the hand passing the baton wont quite let go as the other tries to take it.

I haven't experienced any gear grinds except for once when i shifted way too slow and had clutched out too early for the shift - that was entirely my fault.

I changed my MTF fluid (with OEM MTF3) at 1500km, now currently sitting at ~6200km with several track days and lots of hard driving. Very happy with the shift feel and consistency of the transmission so far.

My only advice is that I never rush my shifts (slam gears), and on each shift I am fully clutching down ie pedal goes to the floor.

As a side note: the car could do with a clutch type LSD imo.

Small update: I haven't driven too much in the past week, but the problem has greatly reduced. Now it just crunches but goes in at high rpm sometimes. I usually think this stuff is BS but I'll say either the fluid worked or it's a nice coincidence.

Also, it seems like a lot of people say it doesn't happen to them and then go on to say they don't drive hard or not to shift too fast. That's kind of obvious when the problem is about fast shifting at high rpm lol. But it's not like these cars are fast so I can live with that I guess

I'll try the CDV when it's not hot as fuck and report back

Fluid changes can work if the problem isn't too far gone. Overall feel is similar, but my 4th gear lockout is completely gone in my FK8 after switching over to ACDelco FM. The only question left is longevity and how often the fluid needs changing to stay lockout-free.

Perhaps do a video recording of it happening so we can see if it's user error or not. Your videos will help if you want to create a warranty case at the dealer.

You could watch my track videos in my build thread if you want to know what I mean by not shifting fast. It's still fairly quick just not excessively aggressive.

Yeah your shifts aren't slow. I've been deliberately much slower and had it happen. Like I said though, it's pretty rare now, so getting someone to record and catch it will be tough. I'm happy with it for now, but I'll report back if anything changes

Let me clarify when I wrote I take it easy on my transmission. I often redline my 1-2 shift and I shift quickly. However, my 1-2 shift is a hair slower than my 2-3 shift, which is a hair slower than my 3-4 shifts. I don’t treat all of my shifts the same. I’ve driven all of my manual cars the same manner (22 M3, M2 Comp, several s2000’s, CTSV, GT500) and never had any problems, however, my FK8 had a ton of issues. Based upon my data points and mine only, I believe that there may be a problem with your car. Hope the issue gets resolved.
