Well I was driving with my kid in the car and heard a popping sound in my engine bay and suddenly lost all power and the car started to stall out. Luckily I was half a mile away from home. The MAF housing came apart, bolts, and bracket got lost some where in the engine bay. It's very disappointing because it left some deep scuffs and scratches on the side of the intake during the process. Anyone that wants to run this intake or has this intake, please check the MAF bolts or put a drop of loctite. I contacted Cobb support and supposedly they were going to send me a new intake as I requested for one, then they said there is nothing wrong with the intake, then went ghost on me when I sent a follow up email. I was going to send them back this current intake because I didn't pay $1000 to have a nice carbon fiber intake scuffed up or scratched up due to an error on their end because my OCD won't accept such a thing. I was custom tuning with JST and getting ready to log V3 over the weekend, but that went to scrap. I put the stock intake back on and went back to the stock tune. Totally turned off by Cobb. Total waste of money. I hope everyone else has better experience with them and this is my honest opinion and review.

Sorry to hear. I can only imagine how frustrating this is. This is the first issue I've heard about with this intake. I'm keen to hear how this situation resolves, please keep us updated.

I opened up a ticket with them over a week ago and no response. I have decided I will go another direction.
What happen with you?

Well glad I saw this was literally about to buy the whole Cobb setup (not the intake) and think I will just save up and go Hondata. Sorry this happened to you that’s a lot of money for a product to go side ways on you.

That's disaapopinting, do you think you would've gotten further if you raised the issue through JST? Sometimes relaying an issue through their dealer will get you further than going about it on your own.

Funny you say this, I actually saw this thread and reached out to Cobb this morning about it haha.

This is the first issue ive seen with this intake, and I run it on my personal car that makes 500+whp and sees a bit of track time. I believe this is most likely just a fluke issue. I'm interested to see what cobb says and does about this.

I agree it sounds like a one off issue to me as well. The problem arises from Cobb’s lack of communication. If it isn’t resolved in a satisfactory manner and others see this thread it may affect their standing with possible future clients

I hate to be that guy to make the post, but it’s more for educational purposes so others can check their MAF bolts. The intake is nice and it performs well. I give it a 5 out of 5. Don’t let my post discourage anyone from purchasing the intake. I remember reading PRL having a similar issue that was eventually corrected. I’m just happy I wasn’t in the middle lane or fast lane when this happened, especially with my kid in the back seat. As far as customer support, it’s disappointing, but I’m over it. I should have just kept the engine bone stock as I said I would from the beginning.

Brain from JST has been very helpful and he tunes spot on. He actually offered to retune my car with the stock intake, but I already got a taste of having an upgraded intake so we’ll see which route I end up going.

@02SilverSiHB Good stuff, thanks for sharing. As much as I like what I'm seeing (and hearing) from this intake, I just can't pull the trigger. From what I've been able to gather, I don't believe there are appreciable gains with this intake system on the stock turbo and at ~$1k, that's too much to spend for an induction noisemaker. If I see data to the contrary, I'm happy to reconsider.
EDIT: Cobb answered back and is sending a newly designed replacement to resolve this issue below 👇

Man I can't remember if you said you bought already in another post. I'd say get your money back if you can. I'm so done buying expensive intake. Totally done. Same crap just happened to me. I also noticed one weird nut came loose inside that holds a metal plate below the box. They can't say it's me...as the part that came loose was bolted on from when I received it.

Just when I thought I found a good one

Dang that sucks man, I'm sorry to hear that you went through the same situation as me. I haven't checked the nuts inside the actual air-box, but I will later on today because now you got me curious. At least your bracket and seal stay in-tact. Mine got lost some where in the engine bay. I took the bottom belly cover off and I still couldn't find anything.

Yeah that sucks.

My tuner, who's installed them before said I need to push that pipe in further to the coupler. So I did, definitely more inside that coupler now.

I had to loosen the bolts holding the box, loosened the clamp on the coupler to the plastic pipe and shoved it in lol.

Definitely further on. I'm okay admitting user error, but dang...

Sorry to see this happen to another member. What exactly happened? Was it similar or different to @B16B ? And when you say a nut came loose, did it fall out or was it just visibly loose? And yes, I did buy this intake. Still sitting in the box, still in original packaging.

@B16B what's your status with COBB Tuning and their support for this situation?

I wouldn't say that's user error. That still shouldn't cause the bolts to get loose and fall apart. I think they were hardly hand-tight installed by Cobb since it's carbon fiber and they came loose from vibration and overtime engine movement. It's probably be a good idea to put a drop of blue loctite on the bolts holding in the MAF housing.

I still haven't received a response about the intake issue and I still haven't received the CARB sticker. Apparently they were going to ship out mid to late November so well see If I get the sticker by mid December.

Here's a vid, easier to explain that way lol.

Halfway through my vid you'll see how much the coupler was on that plastic part...I fixed that and tightened the crap out of the other bolts. Hope this stays good
