e92 was a flippin huge car with a v8 and was 3600lbs. I just dont know why bimmers are so heavy in general. You look at the 2 series and think it shouldn't be more than 3400lbs.
They’re heavy mostly because of the tech and gadgets. Useless gadgets, I should add. Gadgets that I always complain about mainly because they add weight. Lots of it.

I hear folks talk about how GRC/CTR should’ve come with this or that… “oh, I wish it had more speakers, power seats, heated seats, 360 camera, bigger brakes, infinitely adjustable chassis, better noise insulation, more powerful engine, and so on…”

Before you know it, you’d have a CTR approaching M3 weight.

I remember in e46 M3 days, heated and power seats weighed significantly more than manual seats. Extra speakers and rear sub were an additional 30+ lbs. The list goes on… The new M2 probably has more speakers, heavier speakers, heavier amps, and heavier sub(s). Now apply this to other parts of the car and yes, you end up with 3,800+ lbs, which should surprise absolutely nobody.

Did you see the new M2/M3 caliper in person from up close? - It’s a monster. Looks like it’s twice the size of the CTR caliper. Paired with the enormous rotors, I’d say it’s probably 50-100 lbs of added weight in just the brakes all around.

M2’s/M3’s were never dedicated track cars. Nor were they meant to be. They were great allrounders with a blend of luxury, refinement, and performance, which always resulted in compromises. These cars never excelled in any particular category; they appealed to the masses because they were good in more categories than others.

To me, the new M2’s/M3’s are luxury cruisers first and performance vehicles second. The fact that I can still buy each as a 6-spd is icing on the cake. I see the M3 as a modern e39 M5, but in no way a replacement for a CTR if I’m looking for a fun car.

CTR - a reliable daily that’s engaging and fun.
M2/M3 - a fast luxury car.

Anyone else put in a deposit for the new M2?

I did it last night. Still conflicted about how it looks. But after initial research so far everyone is saying it's pretty much a M2 CS, so that kinda sold me.

Atleast now I have 4 backups lol

its 63k in the US so with carbon buckets and executive package I'm getting it'll be over 70 with taxes. Honestly thats just too much for a daily.

Ya, all in with taxes it's like $99k CAD (no buckets). Ideally, I didn't even want to consider a 2 door. But it seems like it's a winner on paper. Would crush my soul if the FL5 destroyed it on track lol.

So I drove the Giulia Veloce and Giulia Quadrifolgio yesterday. Thoughts while it is fresh in my mind.

Any comments on spec are relevant to Australia only.

Firstly, both cars are victims of the superconductor shortage.

This means both cars have lost tilt adjust on the seats and the Veloce has lost adaptive dampers. Regardless the Veloce rode beautifully. It's such an impressive car. Enough power, comfortable, beautiful and good handling. It all comes undone at ten tenths, but I would never drive the car like that as it would be a daily.

The Quadrifoglio was a beast. Funnily enough it rode best in full race mode. It was impressive but not impressive enough that I would swap out of the GT4 and ST and have the Alfa as my only car.

I want to try a Stelvio Veloce as well sometime just for interest.

Before the end of the year the Giulia and Stelvio updates for 2023 will be announced. The prediction is all features will return, along with a big upgrade in infotainment. Apparently they are dropping the base sport model. It will instead be offered in three grades - Ti (luxury-focused 206kw) Veloce (sport-focused 206kw) and Quadrifoglio (375kw beast, but rumours are there will be an upgrade and improvements to the QF). Anyway...verdict is, Veloce is very very cool...and if the Aussie price of the CTR is ridiculous, I will be looking long and hard at a Giulia Veloce for my daily.

Out of curiosity, if you wanted 4 doors, why not an M3 then? Asking because that's one of my potential backups, although the more photos/videos that are released of the Type R, the more I think that's really the only car I want...

My 2023 Toyota Supra is here and I should be picking it up next week.
I'll probably keep the car unless I can get a white FL5 allocation =).

I almost think BMW pulled out off a minor miracle in the sense that a blindfolded child could have done a better design. The odds of that fugliness are astronomical.

So the thing that gets me about the looks are, the pictures are one thing, but all the in person reviewers all seem to think if looks good. Is this one of those u have to see it in person kinda deals?

Like I don't get it, many tubers who I kinda respect actually think it looks really good after seeing it.

Not that I can afford a BMW, but I am not a big fan of their new looks. They ruined pretty much every model for me. If money was not an option, I would probably daily a m340i. But again for me manual is a must, and that pretty much narrows the field down to 3 to 4 cars.

So ya for size and daily comfort I think CRT is king. But maybe if I could settle for a 2 door, I would probably try to get a Dodge charger scat pack with widebody in manual of course.

I believe it. I actually love the way it looks in photos/videos and can only imagine how good it looks in person. The backtracking started immediately after the official reveal as expected. This outrage is nothing new and isn't limited to the G generation. People have really short memories. Give it time and just wait and see how this car is regarded over the next decade.

Hope you really enjoy it if you end up with one.
