My initial reaction is this is a high quote and perhaps it's the same Honda shop I'm thinking of. Based on the quote it seems they're charging about $1,000 in labor.
I was expecting $2000 or so, but I was also coming in with no clear idea of what the labor should cost so I'll trust you that it is a bit high. That quote was from Summit, I'm still waiting to hear back from some other places. If you have any ATL recs I should contact, feel free to send them my way.

Well I managed to crack the molded triangle-ish plastic trim piece that runs under the back seat and connects to the door sill trim while I was installing my new illuminated sills--I was about $150 worth of furious when I did it, but understandably relieved when the dealership confirmed it's a $14.90 part.

Just proves even if you're careful and using the right tools... not everything goes smoothly.

Some interesting developments today. So far for the dashboard replacement I've received quotes as low as $600 for labor and as high as $1250. I followed up with the shop I first received a quote from (Summit, at $1400 total) and they looked into it and believe the part number I supplied is wrong. They want me to come in to look at it.

I'll be curious if 77100-T20-A01ZA somehow isn't the dashboard???

That's strange. I did think that the price seemed low for the whole dash panel, but the diagrams are showing/claiming that's the part number. $600 labor sounds pretty good! Look forward to anything else you can find out.

Yep, exactly my feelings. That dash price seems low but I haven't seen anything else in the parts list that would make sense otherwise?

Some more fun developments:

I talked to Summit today and it looks like their labor is actually $600 but they are under the impression the necessary part is ~$800. Whomever their parts guy is said that 77100-T20-A01ZA isn't the correct part but that 77100-T39-A02ZA is. Doing some digging, it looks like the Type R has its own unique dashboard part number from the normal Civic hatch. You can see that in the graphic below. Thing is, I didn't realize that the Type R dash is different in any way from the normal Civic hatch dash??? Anybody realize this?

Very interesting, I had no idea either, I wonder what’s different about it. Glad we have a confirmed part number now, thank you! ?? I just noticed it says unavailable until further notice, did they tell you if they could get it, how long it would take etc?

Supposedly he has a lead on one from California that’ll take about a week to get to me. He wants me to bring the car in to look at first before ordering tho, understandably.

Updates:

Took to the car into one of the mechanics. I've used him before, great guy but very old school and no nonsense. Full quote was $1600, about $850 of that being the cost of the dash itself. I asked him to confirm the part number for me so I can make sure I'm sourcing the same thing as his "parts guy" because I've seen it for closer to $660 (including shipping). He wouldn't give me the part number because he doesn't know it. Said he just gave his guy my VIN and was given a price.

I'm gonna chat with a few other mechanics and, at the very least, try to get them to confirm that 77100-T39-A02ZA is the right one. I'm also still waiting to hear back from some local dealers for a quote.

Such a tough call. Hard to belive any mechanic can install it 100% perfectly without any scuffs or nicks. I guess best case is any issues during install would hopefully not be in line of sight or vision.

That's my fear if I were to do it, I may just end up with even worse damage and possibly rattles etc. I will probably just live with mine as it's two very small areas in the A-pillar base area. It still pisses me off so much that it is/was so easy to leave permanent marks/dents on it. If I had the damage that Bonito has though, I would be willing to risk it.

The most frustrating part is that my initial damage was minor enough that I could have probably lived with it. The damage I caused trying to fix it is what is costing me here. I'm a real cautionary tale ;_;

Finally an update to wrap all this up:

I went ahead and ordered a new dash and alcantara steering wheel (might as well save on shipping) and got them installed today. My wallet is a bit lighter but I'm really happy to have everything fixed. I ended up paying a little more to go with a dealer so the work would be warrantied and, amazingly, there are absolutely no dash rattles. Everything is actually quieter than it was before.

Also, that steering wheel clicking issue some of us have had? When they installed the alcantara wheel they had to remove and reseat the airbag and that completely fixed the issue. Now I just need to get some Sonax and a brush!

I now have a slightly damaged FL5 dash and OEM leather steering wheel in my garage that I'm not sure what to do with. Sell it on eBay? Junkyard?

Glad you were able to get this sorted. Sometimes these endeavors are expensive but peace of mind is invaluable. You should be able to sell both parts. The wheel is an easy sell. And someone may pick up the dash eventually for a project. Can you share the part number(s) for the dash?

FL5 dashboard part #77100-T39-A02ZA.

I believe the normal Civic hatch dashboard is #77100-T20-A01ZA and I have no idea if there is an actual difference between them but given that they are different part numbers I assume there must be.
