You may not have a choice if you're buying in your state of residence. Even if you're buying out of state you may not have a choice if they ask you. I'm glad they agreed that I pay sales tax in TX.
it depends on the states laws. we use a service to collect tax / handle reg on every out of state deal that is financing with us. if youre paying cash its usually just us charging our local DMV fees & letting you leave on an in transit tag that gives you a few wks to go to your license agency/DMV to handle paying tax & registering the vehicle. the midwest is a diff animal and with you being so far away, its probably not an option to let the car leave without collecting tax. as far as your trade goes, check Autonation / Carvana / Carmax as i sold my GR to them this week for $3k more than the dealer offered me
That was me, and I didn't "call you out". Someone commented that it appeared you didn't pay Destination & Handling Fees. My response was essentially everyone pays it. That's included in the $47,145 MSRP. At the end of the day, the OTD price is what matters. We can't help the sales tax we get charged where we live. The guys from CA are hit much harder than the rest of us. I think they're over 10%. Lucky for me it's only 6.25% in TX.
One dealership in Cincinnati was charging MSRP, and one across town was charging 15k markup. I didn't mean to but actually lol'd at the sales guy I was talking to. I was looking for red specifically so I only called dealerships that had red and out of 12 only 1 was charging MSRP with no addons. That was in WI, MN, IL, OH, IN, MI.
I had this same experience - told the one with the markup that I had an MSRP offer and he couldnt have cared less. I am betting that someone did eventually pay that mark up but WHY when other dealers around Cincy are selling at MSRP. I got mine in Dayton.
Exactly, someone is still paying it. Another dealership said that a 15k markup was just a starting point. I told them my starting point was 20k under MSRP and they got all butt-hurt on the phone after that.
Dealers only get 1 or 2 right? So all they need is to find one schmuck buying willing to pay markup and they make a nice profit. So I understand them not wanting to let go of their only car at MSRP.
