I haven't read through the entire 9 pages, but is there any usable function(s) that we're losing if the TCU is removed? For example, update notification, etc... I don't subscribe to anything and I don't use the Honda Apps.

Really no reason to remove it in my eyes. Just unplug and place connectors to the side after wrapping with some sort of anti rattle insulation or foam. You won’t be getting any sort of OTA updates. My car runs fine so I don’t feel a need for an update if there was one released.
Need to go to the shop? Plug the connectors back in and go there. Disconnect or reconnect, either operation is five minute task.
JMO and other owners will have theirs

I do not recall if I removed it or just disconnected the TCU, but in over four or five months, I have seen no ill effects.

I do check updates manually every so often using a USB thumb drive and the Honda website

Everyone is so programmed to update everything all the time. If everything is working fine what do you need updated?

Depends on the update.

Checking for update does not mean that I'll apply it.

I will review the release notes, evaluate any fixes and added functionalities (if any) and then make an informed decision.

Same as for any other system: iOS, MacOS, Windows, router, ham radios, etc, anything with firmware, and apps too.

Must be nice to have that kind of free time. Who is looking at a monthly cumulative Windows update weighing the pros and cons of installing it?

I treat an internet connected system very differently than one that isn't. My Internet connected devices update regularly and usually on their own, including apps. Unlike most consumer software these days, which is released half finished and patched to 100% as they go, the car is expected to be released in a working form. I'm sure if there was a safety issue, they would issue a TSB and update it at the dealer for you. Just doesn't seem important enough to spend the time on.

I do not weigh pros and cons myself, I look at "expert" reviews, but only for major updates. not weekly/monthly updates. sorry I was not clear.

Today is Sporky's 1 Year Anniversary.
Gave Honda a full year of data.
I have no excuses to wait around any longer.
It's time to stop.

Done.

You're welcome, Honda, for the free year of data. Now leave me alone.

Cheers.

Help me understand why the complete removal of the TCU? Is it for weight savings?

Not for weight savings for me. I suppose it saves a few ounces by removing the module, if someone really needs that weight reduction.
I put my TPS Report module in a ZipLock bag so I can tuck it away in a bin with other unneeded OEM parts, like the rear windscreen wiper.

Put it in... Time Out ... if you will.

Yeah I’m good with my choice to unplug. My car runs, looks, operates just fine without being connected. I’m not paranoid, yet I am comfortable with my decision to not share data.
In about 3 minutes I can pop the cover off without damage, and reconnect the plugs if need be.
I do t need an OTA update, nor a monthly vehicle health report from Honda telling me how nice my car is. YMMV
