Hey everyone, seems there's some interest in starting a Sim Racing thread. I think it would be a good idea to present our setups and which games we play.

I'll start off, I currently only play Gran Turismo (PSN: Club-Version) and causally race online, as I have not jumped into the rabbit hole of building a PC but at this point I think I should.

Sim Setup:
Fanatec DD Pro
Fanatec Load Cell Brake Pedal
Fanatec Boost Kit 180 (8nm)
Fanatec McLaren GT3 V2 Wheel
Fanatec ClubSport Shifter SQ
Race Sim Engineering Brake Tuning Kit
Race Sim Engineering Clutch Upgrade Kit V2
Race Sim Engineering Throttle Upgrade Kit V2
Advanced Sim Racing ASR 4
Advanced Sim Racing Single Monitor Mount with Optional Shelf
NRG FRP-301 Bucket Seat
Gigabyte M32U Monitor
PlayStation 5

Looking at the RigMetal - Low cost sim rig chassis cockpit setup. Compatible with whatever seat and wheel/pedal I want. Currently just a G923 I've had for a few years. Don't want to go too crazy as I am not sure the amount of time I'll have for this. I think I could end up with a workable setup for about $1k. Seems reasonable? Anyone have feedback on this brand?

I would take a pic of my setup but that means I would have to clean up...so i'll just list what i have

I play GT7 on PS5 exclusively...when I get the chance which is not much

  • Fanatec DD Pro
    • (upgraded from as T300 GT RS which was great for the price)
  • Fanatec Load Cell Brake Pedal with 3DRap 'spring'
    • I liked my T-LCM better with the 3D Rap but can't use it with this setup, or at least not easily
  • Fanatec Boost Kit 180 (8nm)
  • GT Omega Prime Cockpit
  • GT Omega RS6 Seat
    • fit fine and large belly wise, 5'8/180 lbs
  • GT Omega ART monitor stand
    • kind of cheap solution, but it fits my needs
    • before VR i used it with a 27" 120 hz monitor which worked well
  • PS VR2 headset
    • I primarily play, 99.9% in VR
  • ButtKicker for more immersion
  • Headphone amplifier
    • for buttkicker and another headset instead of the earbuds

i don't even know lol...my son changed the one I had since PSN started and I never bothered to remember the new one...has some x's and stuff lol...when I log on I'll post it.

----------------------------
Side not I did build a PC and all that good stuff. It allows for a lot, A LOT of customization and software and more hardware, BUT it wasn't for me. I just want to sit down for like 10-15 minutes jump in a game and get on with life.

With a PC, there was a lot of tinkering and just not like you can just join a game easily. Also, iracing is not for me. It's like the apple of the sim industry, except with horrendous UI. I get people love it, but it's too serious and I don't want to mess with 100 settings to get the car better.

damn this took off

@svvitch do you have a microcenter? I ask because one of the best rigs bang for buck is the simlab GT1 Evo which is what I got, $450 at microcenter and comes with a single screen mount. Its sim labs so its high quality. And you can just go pick it up at micro center.

Rig Metal is good too, there are a ton of good brands. I just like sim lab because you can get it locally at a microcenter... gotta be careful though because they also have all the good wheels and pedals and everything

I am in a game in 1 minute, I bet I can get in a game on my pc faster than you on your ps5 :) I get it though, people don't want to spend at least 1500 bucks on a decent PC (more like 3k if you get somthing nice) but I already have a PC for work so I just connect the stuff to it.

The thing about PC is the mod community got so many tracks made so you can drive at most tracks, that to me is the main benefit you download the track and can learn the track before you go to it. Some home made tracks are crap but you at least get to learn it, some are great because they steal em from whatever game has it laser scanned. I basically have every track around here on assetto.

iracing is very serious for sure but they have to be otherwise would be a shit show. I know you love to be competitive and that is why you do TTs, you would actually love iracing, I know it seems like a lot but when you are 1st place with 2 cars chasing you till the last second and win, its pretty amazing lol, but you gotta put in work which is annoying, I like to jump in and play but iracing has me having to come at 7;45 to play a race lol Even if I come mid pack I am still having fun though

and UI is terrible but its better now, the good thing is iracing runs on most pcs, so the graphics are meh but it runs on everything.

I have the new assetto corsa too, AC Evo. It looks pretty amazing, its going to be very good but its early access now and has a lot of bugs

Microcenter ? I wish - we just got a Costco last year! Sometimes I make it to St Louis which has one, and it's worth the drive if my wife wants to also hit Ikea lol. I might take a day off and go get one. Maybe get a new video card while I'm at it so I can run 4k instead of 1440.

which add-on manager are you using for AC? I tried to download a local track and AC would not load it. I am sure it's something I'm doing. I got distracted by something else and haven't been back to look at it since.

Microcenter is the greatest place on earth LOL. I can't believe that in the era of everything online and Amazon a place like that exists. The best prices too. I don't have one around me, its a 3 hour round trip but I try to go once in a while
