It's up to personal preference but the 10th/11th gen civic have terrible pedal placement for heel-toe rev matching. If you've driven older Hondas/Acuras you will immediately notice how much more effort it requires to rev-match properly.
I use the auto rev match myself but my sons 10gen si, my old fk8, neighbors fl5 and my de5 feel perfect. For my 10.5 size feet

tho I know some folks that found pedal placement to be slightly awkward. Maybe it’s all on how are feet are shaped? LOL

I personally don't like the rev match when driving around town. I commonly will downshift when approaching a stop and coast to the stop with the clutch in, so the rev match doesn't actually keep the RPM up for me when I'm accelerating away from the stop. It will be a personal preference thing on how you drive and what you like.

Certainly not doing any damage to the car for sure.
This is where I am as well, I typically drop to first gear approaching stop signs etc and having the car constantly blipping the throttle was driving me crazy. However I do typically turn it on when driving the backroads as my feet just cannot heel toe and it makes downshifts infinitely easier when pushing the car.

I actually really like the rev match! Haven't had that ever on a manual in all my (past) years of driving them! Super smooth shifts!

It really could just be my feet lol but I had zero issues rev matching in my DC2, DC5, EM1, DB8, EF9, EG6 or EK4. I only had issues rev matching in my FK7, FK8 and FL5, so I left rev-matching on in the FL5

haha...I'm too old to learn new tricks! LOL....I'll let the car do it for me! :)

The vast majority of people who say this are trying to learn heel-toe from an Initial D cartoon when they should be learning from Ayrton Senna.
To be fair, it also depends on feet size and pedal placement. I have small feet (7.5) and have to do literal heel toe like inital D, where toes on brake and you twist your ankle and use your heel to blip throttle. I'm actually really good at it (and consistent) in cars like my track Cayman especially since its factory floor mounted throttle.

In some cars like FL5 with an Acuity pedal spacer I can do it without twisting as much and can blip on the side of my foot, kind of where the sole of your shoe meets the fabric/shoe part (I dont use the sole at all). I have never been able to cover both the brake and throttle with one foot and just do the roll of the ankle to blip (like Senna). The only way I would be able to do that is if the brake and throttle were practically touching each other.

That’s fair. I can’t in an nd2 Miata. I wish the brake pedal was a hair closer

but in my buddies Mazda speed Miata, I can just fine

I have weird feet I guess lol

When I was taught how to drive. I was also being taught how to drive a manual. I’m that old 😂

Isn't that bad practice to shift into first anyways? You should be able to slow down enough in 2nd+brake. Only time you'd need first is going from a crawl/stop to go (or on stop and go traffic).

I had no idea that's how Senna did his heel toe, if seen videos a while back but I'm glad my foot is wide enough to roll it haha

I had no idea that's how Senna did his heel toe, if seen videos a while back but I'm glad my foot is wide enough to roll it haha

Covering both pedals with one foot and a slight roll for blip.

If I’m in second and find myself lower than 1200rpm I slip it into first.
