What are you on man? You’re taking opinions that are opposed to yours very personally. That’s the only truly stupid shit going on here. You’re no more of an authority on the topic than anyone else. Wild
Very personally? How so? Or is this just one of those defense mechanisms some folks use when someone makes a point? I literally even said it’s your car and your money. Do as you please right after I explained myself.

I've seen quite a few people say that the OEM filter made in Japan (15400-RTA-003) is much better than the A02 made by Fram in the US... a quick AI inquiry seems to confirm that
I personally wouldn’t know but I do know the Honda hamp filter is decent. I’ve no idea where the hamp one is made. Sorry.

Lol! With all due respect, reread your comments in full. You’re the only one being defensive and saying stupid things like “Just because one decides to do the bare minimum doesn’t give folks the right to say stupid shit like ‘if this is what Honda decided then it must be enough.’” Anyone and everyone here has every right to contribute their opinion, even if you don’t agree. Imagine that. Wild huh

You do you, but don’t expect others to follow. You aren’t an authority on the topic, so maybe stop pretending to be one…and there won’t be any problems.

This is from "Bob the oil guy"

  • 15400-RTA-003: Made in Japan. This is basically the JDM version of the current blue can 15400-PLM-A02, but much higher quality (7317 size)
  • H1540-RTA-03: This is the HAMP version of the 15400-RTA-003. Same filter, but this the can says both Made in Japan and Mahle on it. A very high quality Japanese-made filter.

I watched an episode of Engine Masters a couple months ago on MotorTrend channel (on Pluto TV) and they did a bunch of oil filter testing. I found it interesting even though they weren’t testing the actual size we use in our Honda. But the brands/construction still apply, just not the can size.

I found the Season 6-Episode 5 on YT just now. May be worth a watch, or not?
I thought that their testing methodology was as good as anybody else’s.

Yes. I said that. And I mean that. You can’t be all like “yeah my 5$ toaster is great enough and if the toaster manufacturer says it’s enough for my type of bread then that’s good enough for me “ it seems as if you’re being a bit….. U know?

i don’t wanna say it. It’s rude. But U feel me right?

now if what I said and or how I said it ruffled U some. I do apologize. Sincerely. Not to use as an excuse but I don’t read well (dyslexia) and English is not my first language (tho I feel I’m killing it). Sorry bro

So hamp is definitely made in Japan then. Thnx for the info. I appreciate U. This explains its cost. Getting something from there over here makes things a little more expensive for sure and only an idiot would try arguing with the maniacs on the bob is the oil guy forums. A huge chunk of those people know their shit.

Oh that’s an old one! Good watch too. Great info

It's not that deep BRO, it's an oil filter.

We're not even talking about consistency of oil changes, but the actual fluid. Your answer was also incredibly qualitative and already said what others have about flow/filtration. It doesn't answer what is better for this particular engine and I know that almost all of us here don't know either.

You misunderstood or I’m doing a bad job explaining the hill I’m on. It’s probably me. Sorry.

what a person uses, like it’s their car. Their money. But if they’re using some shitty filter why would one conclude “this one’s great cuz Honda said so.” When in reality it isn’t.

and there are folks that will use a much better oil too vs the stock Honda oil. Maybe because they track. Maybe because they occasionally push hard on fun roads. Or maybe just because they want better superior lubrication that won’t start breaking down around 2k miles. Yet they’ll still use a filter that flows bad. Filters bad. And has a crappy bypass. Yet they’ll call it good. That’s the part I’d like to address and have been trying to

see. What you do with your property. None of anyone’s business. Plus it’s your money. U know? But don’t sit here and call a bad oil filter good enough. When it isn’t.

I do apologize for not getting my point across clearly. also this is in regards to the blue Honda filter, and not in regards to the hamp filter from Japan.

edit: what’s a good oil filter for me may not be good for you due to use cases being different. I can recommend some filters if you can tell me your oil change interval. How U abuse the car and how often. Stuff like that. I can at least recommend 2 or 3?

I wasn’t being any kind of way. We were having a very normal discussion and differing opinions are part of a normal discussion. And yes, I do think if Honda believes that their basic filters are good enough for most use cases (excluding perhaps tracking and extreme conditions), then they’re fine. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that statement. And like I said, we’d have seen widespread failures everywhere by now since the filters are so widely used over MANY years, but we don’t. Right? If I’m wrong, then please provide data. No one here is denying that better filters exist! However, it seems like you took it that way for some strange reason, then proceeded to spaz out. It made no sense! Do you see that?

I stand by what I said : Anyone and everyone has a right to express their opinion here, just as much as you or anyone else does. Doubling down on the fact that you told people to basically “shut up” because their opinion is different than yours is…you know…I won’t say it, but it’s straight up rude. Maybe that’s normal in your household or something, but it’s not going to fly here. I think you know this.

Anyway…despite the train wreck, you seem alright man. And regardless of your dyslexia or English not being your first language (I’ll keep this in mind going forward), we all have our good and bad days. Sometimes the smallest things can trigger us and cause us to react a bit out-of-character. We’re all guilty of that. It happens. I think we’ve both had some time to chill out. We’re good.👍

Haha you're fine, I wasn't trying to be combative lol. I'm just of the opinion that for the most general use case (daily driving+spirited driving) that any filter that's as good as stock or better is more than adequate if your oil changes are frequent enough. I even think if you do an oil change (filter included) before and after a track day that it's more than adequate.

What would you suggest for someone who does all three?

An oil change after each track day is good practice but man that gets expensive. But if U can afford it, that’s honestly the best way forward. Tho I’d also send in some samples to black stone. Just to get their opinion on things. Maybe U can drag it out to every 2-3 track days cuz the moly dropped some. For example

if driving like a law abiding citizen. Not too many options are gonna filter as good as an amsoil filter. Their flow is ok but not great. Won’t matter tho. Not in this use case, it’ll be enough flow

if driving auto x or track several times a year. The puralator (spelling?) boss is hard to beat. Its balance of flow and filtration is pretty damn solid. And the filter is reasonably priced.

if like me and U don’t track but have been blessed with fun twisty roads and great friends to enjoy them with. I really like the Honda hamp filter but only if rules of quantity apply. They aren’t expensive but aren’t cheap either. So if U can get a multi pack. You’ll save money. Also like the wix xp, really like the mobile 1 too.

I’m sure there’s tons of filters that are great that I didn’t mention. I just don’t have experience with them myself. I hear the k&n is great for those of us who abuse the car some though but I’ve never tried one myself. It’s supposed to filter good and flow good too

I always use Honda filters. Don't want to change the bypass valve spec. Plus, I've never had a problem with them so why not use them.

where's a good place to get the Honda RTA filters for a decent price?
