Haha… haven’t left yet! I still enjoy this car so much.

Honda’s pulling the ol’ “it doesn’t meet the buy back criteria” trick. The real deterrent for me right now? Taking your car to a stealership and having techs joyride the heck out of it.

Copy that.
I'm about fed up with my local thieveryship myself. Parts department is about the only reason to set foot in there anymore.

Your situation is unique, though.
I hope you get it resolved to (at least close to) your satisfaction.
Take care.

Cheap “winter” tire trend…loading🧐

There’s no real pride in this. I just decided to throw some cheap tires on my custom “race” wheels while Honda refurbishes my OEM wheels they damaged. It’s been almost a 3 month ordeal with them and the “repairs.”

Daily driving on Toyo R888Rs is super fun, but it definitely comes with trade offs. Mainly the cost, and rotational frequency. This past SoCal rain season gave me enough insight to push me toward something a little more practical. 😅

After doing some quick research, I landed on this cheap tire that’s known to run a bit larger than others in its class. Surprisingly, it’s almost as chunky as the Toyos. I’ll update as things go and let you guys know how they perform and how they wear. ✌🏾

What's up homes?
Car looking top notch, as always. Black and Red is the new ... Black?

So am I correct in assessing that you pulled off your Summer Toyo Proxes R888 tires, and installed some "Winter" tires on your badass red wheels?
... Because SoCal winters cold and icy?

I am in the process of getting a "winter" wheel and tire setup for the frigid arctic upcoming Texas winter, myself.
...Because Central Texas winters cold and icy (for me, at least).

I always like checking out your thread. Super unique look you got there.
Keep up the great work.

Cheers.

What up Sporky,

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words brotha. My favorite colors combined, IMO, I can’t lose.

I did take the toyos off the front today. Tomorrow, I’ll do the rears. Luckily for me, no ice, but it definitely gets wet!! Given a car hydroplanes earlier than most even understand, I was pushing my luck trying to do 65-85mph on these. A wet track day? Sure! A wet commute? How dumb are you!?

For artic climates, I hear the blizzaks, I hope that’s spelled right, are the go tos. Given your style, I’d be bold enough to play with an all terrain.

Aweee man far too kind. I mean it. One day it’ll be a catalog car, and fade into sameness. I didn’t want to sprint to the finish just yet. So playfully, I just put my vision out there. I want to enjoy this car for decade's - about to hit 12000 miles and not a single one has let me down.

Bad news
Trans is getting louder
Wastage Rattle is still the “norm”
I think I’m hearing some dash vibrations (I’ll retest after my stock wheels come back)

Dash vibrtations in this platform....ugh. I'm chasing multiples now, every time I have one area narrowed down I feel like the weather/temps change and the noises change.

Rear view mirror has been the most troublesome

Anyone know if there is a thread addressing the dash vibration issue? I know there is a project thread for deadening fender, body, and door noise. Badass thread. One of these days I'd like to open up my FL5 and sound deaden at least the floor. If I started there (the hard part), the rest may look relatively simple in comparison.

Sound Deadening Project thread:

@Sporky McGeuschky Yes, I've seen a few threads, or at least posts, regarding dash vibration issues. I personally removed the center speaker cover and adjusted the module underneath that was prone to vibrating...I would have to dig back to find that thread though.

EDIT here's what I referenced, post #5 has a couple fixes:

Nailed it. Ok. having the same experience.

DAY 1 - Initial thoughts. All 4 tires mounted & balanced

Ride Comfort - Not as bad as half life Toyos. Comparable to stock tires but a bit more plush.

Noise level - Not as bad as half life Toyos. Comparable to stock. Have yet to listen to them with the windows up.

Handling - Requires a push. The sidewall does not initially feel as strong as toyos, considering toyos design/level of engineering. There was a Slight feel of understeer but it accepts acceleration, as correction well, inspiring confidence. Toyo, is definitely a point and shoot tire. This tire requires more input..

Grip - WTH.... surprisingly grippy. Compared to half life toyos. I can spin third w/ toyos. This tire hooks. Tomorrow, I will test them on my usual off ramp. It's an ascending, max grade, left curve off ramp, to a crest, and right turn, into a depression, long straight.

So...
These Atlas Force UHP tires, I take it, are UHP All Season / All Weather tires?
I live under a rock, or more like on top of one, to be more precise. I've never heard of Atlas Force.

New Up N Coming brand, perhaps, or just safe enough to get you through February?

Yes sir, atlas uhps have been on the spectrum for a while now. The bravest of the bravest peasants, such as myself, seem to try them out and like them - apparently. 😅

Hahaha … at a few hundred bucks, I can’t say it’s worth a winter trial for you. You’d more than likely have to wait until spring and summer to collect those dividends. 😂

Manufacturer/Retailer overview.

“The intricate siping design enhances its grip in light snow“

If you’re an ice road trucker, they’ve had poor reviews in snow. But, being that’s objective, I’ve asked myself are these same stiffs correcting tire psi in cold climates, or are they still running summer psi and saying the tire is at fault? Does the correction even make that much difference for this tire? Who knows.

Day 2. After 100+ mile round trip - Buoyancy.

Found what I’d call the first con. The car feels a bit buoyant on some areas of the road. I’m chalking that up to these being passenger tires and the new 35 series sidewall compared to the factory 30-series and the race 35s. For context, I drive this stretch every day, and about once a week I try to take the R.
  • Certain road conditions, I feel something like a double bounce in the tire, to the pavement.
  • Moderate bumps/dips in the road feel more like a springboard. The tire absorbs these jolt impacts ok, but at fwy speeds, it's getting more "air time" compared to stock or Toyo.

The bright side is the grip is definitely real. After sprinting through our usual stretch of twists and turns, my coworker I rideshare with was impressed, saying the car felt planted and powerful. He drives a ’21 STI, which we took the night before.
