Theoretically couldn't one get a similar sound by deleting the Front Resonator and adding a Hondata tune? Seems like that should be easily doable no? I'm guessing the Hondata tunes don't specifically add "pops & bangs" but I'm sure you'd get at least some overrun noises etc from that combo. Guess we will have to wait and see who will be the first person out there to try just the front Res delete and see how it changes the sound on its own.

honestly for me personally, coming from a f80 m4 and considering how popular burble tunes are off of M cars and euro's in general i think burbles are kinda tacky now.. I'd be ok with the pure engine noise of the CTR or ITS. from the videos the sound, sounds pretty good. I'm actually considering trying it myself.

Holy crap... you and I think alike. I was going to post the same exact still image from that video to ask what you asked.

It's interesting that the ITS doesn't have the front resonator, while pretty much all of the people in the forum here that perform a resonator delete on the FL5 remove the larger resonator in the middle. I'm not sure if anyone has only removed the front resonator on the FL5.

are there soundclips of this larger resonator delete?

lol all this planning to try to modify your stock exhaust when you can just go get a aftermarket and sound even better.

I'd say cost? Res delete is however much it costs to swap in a straight section of tubing, I'd figure a couple hundred bucks. Even cheap exhausts are $1,500+ and a lot are well above that. Some folks like the stock look too.

Dont really see how a Hondata Tune would alter the exhaust note. Replacing the resonator would 100% give you a sound difference. If it will sound like the ITS or not will be up to debate unless you can hear both side by side.

I know with my car the GT350, the GT350s come with resonators and the GT350Rs don't come with them, so its a bit like the ITS and CTR. The stock GT350 sounds muted compared to the GT350R. T here was a thread that just like this with tons of good information on the Mustang forums. I got the resonators replaced with piping that is the most similar to the GT350R and it sounds pretty similar although not identical. The pipe diameter is 2.75" and the GT350R actually has a 2.50" I believe. So it'll really depend on someone getting handy with the ITS, and hopefully someone in the aftermarket stepping up.

A Tune can definitely change your exhaust sound. Fuel and timing changes can create the “overrun” or “burble” or “pops and bangs” sound whatever you want to call it. That’s mostly going to come from ECU calibration more so than removing a resonator.

I think he was referring to the sound the exhaust makes "normally" which a tune really won't affect, I don't consider pops or bangs to be part of the exhaust sound it's almost all tune.

A Tune can definitely change your exhaust sound. Fuel and timing changes can create the “overrun” or “burble” or “pops and bangs” sound whatever you want to call it. That’s mostly going to come from ECU calibration more so than removing a resonator.

This is 100% correct. I experienced this back in 2015 when I had my F80 M3 tuned with no additional hardware. Along with the 99 whp and 120 wtq gain came a throttle overrun feature among others. The tables in the ECU were modified to continue injecting fuel off-throttle to create a rich condition in the combustion chamber. That excess fuel is then ignited by retarding ignition timing to facilitate combustion and the result is exhaust sound artifacts. The magnitude to which the crackles, pops, and bangs can be further enhanced via additional modifications to the fuel and ignition tables. It may sound unique and fun in the short term, but it ultimately gets old and it's kind of lame, especially when it's manufactured in this way. Anyhow, different strokes, for different folks.

Agreed that it can get old if overdone. I ran the "burble tune" for a week on my N54 135i before I said.... no thanks... and used my MHD flash tuner to turn it off.

From what I have heard in all the review videos so far, this effect seems to be somewhat mild with the Type S. Mild enough that if I could replicate the stock ITS sound (including the mild burbles) I'd be satisfied and wouldn't bother buying an aftermarket exhaust.

I’m with you. Burbles are played out. So many annoying people with overdone burble and crackle tunes plus my aging have made me resent them. Especially all the Dodge folk out there with their antiquated Challengers and Chargers (based on a 2008 Mercedes E-class platform). I was one of those a little over 2 years ago ?

Agreed! Those burble tunes got so played. I also refused to run on my ///M.

these sound great actually.. why arent more people doing that? honestly this sounds better than most aftermarket exhaust
