I think some of you are missing the point. It's not the tire width that I'm regretting. It's the diameter of the wheel.

18x10 or 18x8.5 is still an 18" circle tucked into your wheel well.

The ratio of the tire does make for a taller sidewall but that happens no matter what you do on an 18". The god spec tires noted above have a larger sidewall compared to the ties I put on. From the side I think the car looks worse on 18's.

Sad that you spent the money to don’t like the setup and find the contrast isn’t correct for the FL5, in my opinion the 18” look good on the FK8 not on the FL5. People here probably will get mad for this but they will defend this the same way they do with over paying for parts from Japan to wait for them 10 years because to tell everyone they have a Japanese part. In my opinion the FL5 body is to be setup with 19” as it comes stock, probably play in the offset and the setup will look way better. Is just a cope mechanism like the people who buy electric cars that want everyone else to buy one even though they probably don’t fit their lifestyle. That say if you like to run 18” good on you but that cup of tea isn’t for everyone so probably stop calling it the "God spec" because it’s idiotic statement in my opinion.

I have 18s and part of me wishes I got 19s. I’m on stock suspension and I do think 19s fill up the wells a lot better. That being said, I also think it depends greatly on the design of the wheel and the tire choice. I say “tire choice” because it’s more than just the size. Even the model tire will make a difference with the same size. Like others have said, I think you’re judging the look off a winter setup that requires a skinny wheel and shitty tire choice. At your ride height, the same wheel in an 18x9.5 and with a 265 or 275 tire, your setup would look fantastic.

After having a whole debate team in my head, I decided to hold off on getting new wheels.

Once the OEM tires need replacing in about a year or two, I plan on getting 265 or even 275 with 35 aspect ratio for the extra sidewall (though acceleration will suffer, because of the larger diameter).

I think you're over thinking it. If you didn't mention it I would never think the 18's on your red type r look bad from the side. I think they look good. I understand what you mean, yes the wheel wells are so big , if you like that real flush look , the 18's dont fill it out as well..but I really dont in any universe think your wheels dont look good also on the type r. This is also bc you have the tire filling up the gap as well, and i bet it rides slightly more comfortable too with that.

but it's easily reversible and if you aren't happy with it by all means, but I dont think anyone looking at it would think what youre saying without you first asking them specifically about it. i also know what you mean about the tuned civic, lol that's a subtle funny thing, but again, I think it's really a minor minor difference.
I agree that they still look good. I just don't think they look as good as if they were a 19", but what you said really sums it up. Even with the 18-19 most non car people wouldn't even notice, and if I didn't go with a silver wheel it wouldn't be as obvious.

It's just a small thing for sure, but just wanted to let people know that they should try to see them in person before buying.

I like a meatier tyre look so for me the 18s look best but it’s definitely subjective. Consider also the extra tyre selection the 18s open up not to mention the cheaper cost (where I am anyway).

I don't like the way 18s look on the DE5, but I don't mind them on the FL5- in the right spec.

But recently 18s have grown on me. Particularly CE28s, and AFAIK they don't make them in 19", not in Honda sizes anyway.

Add to the fact that I want to use RE-71RS (also don't make them in 19s) and the extra sidewall is objectively better for track use, and I'll probably end up looking past whatever aesthetic hangups I have. (although apparently the new Bridgestone that is succeeding the RE-71RS is supposedly going to be offered in more sizes so we'll see...)

I used to also think that changing the offset would ruin the way the car drives. Live and learn.

I would suggest look at snow time attack rims an see what's recommended...subaru had a super skinny tire and I don't know all the math but the results speak...we have been driving in snow for over 100 years so we should be able to see what works lol

I plan on running 265/35 tires an have a silver DE5...had to look up which model of wheel i orderred an its the ze40. I too am particular about my wheel choices an where I throw my money. I do hope they look good...I anticipate the wife will say it just looks more racecar ish lo. I do see many other people's choices that I feel like it doesnt look good or fit right but its their choice an I hope it makes them happy!

Given the fact that you mentioned you don't drive often in the snow is there a reason you didn't consider a quality A/S on the stock wheels ? I currently run a 265/35/19 A/S and had zero issues up here in MA last winter and the ride is much more forgiving than the stock 30's. I personally don't think your car looks bad(even though I like yourself like the stock look better). End of the day your new set up is a dedicated winter set up. I did something similar with my prior Accord Sport 6MT but with the FL5 decided to see how the A/S did in MA winters and was pleasantly surprised how well they did (and I saved $$$) .

This is really subjective of course, everyone has different tastes. But I like the look of the smaller 18 as I prefer a slightly meatier tire setup. If you are lowering the car at all it looks perfect imo. If stock height then I agree, should probably stick to 19. I’ve also always liked the look of smaller rims in general, I think I went smaller with every car I’ve owned (never bigger). I hate how manufactures keep going bigger with wheels. Leave that for the supercars.
