How safe is the Hondata base tune?

Getting unlocked soon and am looking at the 91 base tune. I’m not trying to beat on this car or push it to its limits such that I shorten component life. More so looking to improve the overall experience of driving the car.

That being said, how safe is Hondata’s 91 base tune?

Pay to play man, any time you mod your car be ready to replace components on it. This seems like a very reliable and safe platform but there is always a chance.

I don’t necessarily agree with the above post. I guess there is always a “chance.” However, I don’t see anyone on here (forum) that has complained about issues to their car related to the tune. I myself have this tune and am SUPER happy I did it. Makes the car super fun!

From a data perspective it’s probably hard to say since the FL5 is still fairly new, and would need a good amount of cars with Hondata and the mileage.

But as mentioned above, would also seem the basic Hondata maps aren’t overkill and risk would seem, minimal. If I’m not mistaken, could also get a @Jester04 or other tune and request that you don’t want balls to the wall max hp.

It's a K20. Very reliable, but when you tune you are still rolling the dice.

If one is not prepared to replace parts expensive or cheap out of there own pocket. Enjoy the vehicle warentee that comes with a stock car.

It's the same engine as the FK8. Although the turbo is upgraded. I don't think there is a single report of an FK8 going boom from a basetune. Most happen when guys go crazy with two step launch control IIRC.

Why not a TSP or Phearable tune? If you don't want to go custom, those OTS tunes are pretty good and reliable.

There have been multiple similar threads created. The biggest risk seems to be not fueling the right level of octane and lugging the engine. Drive smart and it keeps risk low.

Not going to go into a bash fest but I was disappointed with what i saw on my logs when i was running a map based on the selectable options within the program. Do yourself a favor and get a map from someone who knows what they're doing with these cars. I've used phareable alot for over a decade now in general but I've also heard good things about @Jester04 , a member here.

Here is the Hondata 93 base map compared to our tune:

Factory Tune - 306whp / 333 ft lbs torque

Hondata 93 Basemap - 321whp / 368 ft lbs torque

TSP Stage 1 for the FL5 - 361whp / 383 ft lbs torque

At the time of testing we noted that the Hondata basemap was using more boost to produce less power than our tune. ?

Same findings I ran into. About 1-2 psi less and still make more power. While also giving the fuel pump some breathing room.
