Some dipshit backed into my car. No note nothing just hit my car and took off.
A bit of damage to the driver side back door.

I'm 50/50 on filling a claim with my insurance. Trying to figure out alternatives before going that route. It would be no fault 500 deductible and my rates would stay the same. However it may lose some value if I decide to trade it in.

Should I try and find a crash ctr and buy the door or possibly buy a new oem door skin assembly.
I'd like to hear what others think.

Get estimate and see what the guy tell you. You always gotta see how much it cost to repair before you proceed with your decision. I had a hit and run to but was able to buff out. The initial estimate was 1k and was whatever after I buff it out Metal was still wavy though Your will significantly more they might have to blend the paint

I'd just leave it until you find a replacement door tbh

Even if it’s a no fault claim, it generally will still cause a rate hike.

A body shop told me that it's better to just buy a new door. And not just a door skin. They quote me 2500 estimate for oem door and paint blend.
I called seibon to see if they were making carbon doors for fl5. They told me it's not in the works for the model.
I have not been able to find a wrecked fl5 to buy a door online.
2500/3k sound like a lot for a door.

I would just claim it. For 2500 it not that bad and they will just raise it for a little bit even if that. I have claim before for hit and run due to my neighbor hood isn’t the best driver

My insurance said that there wouldn't be any changes to my rates. Still undecided on what I will do.

It weird people are saying it will raise your rates but I didn’t see that. I keep my comprehensive low due to this so I just claim whenever. Unless you got one of those rare first model I wouldn’t worry about claiming it. I am surprise you haven’t started fixing it yet. Good luck either way I know insurance now can be difficult

I’d probably just claim it thru insurance. It could possibly lower the car’s value, but the damage is minor and it would show as such on a report. I’m no expert, but I highly doubt this issue would lower the car’s value by $2500-$3000 (the repair cost). You should be able to recoup at least some of the lost value through insurance too…further reducing any resale impact to you. Of course the longer you own the car, the less it’ll matter (with regard to residual value). Hope this helps and you get things squared away to your liking.

With a $500 deductible, I would go through insurance.
