As an update. I have not had another grind on up shifting. I had to do a high-speed merge and shifted at over 6k rpms into second without issue. I am now getting more confidence in the transmission. Down shift i had what feels like a lookout going into second a few times. I still need to change the fluid ehich i hope fixes this.
You adjusted the pedal, yeah?

Yeah based on that video i shared which also had me adjust the set screw.
I did it once before but not that screw which sets the retracted stop of the pedal.

My second gear "grind" is 100% my fault. The shifter rowing from 1st to 2nd is short; moving the shifter out of 1st into 2nd is measured in milliseconds, while my left leg isn't getting the pedal down nearly as fast. I must consciously row the shifter out of 1st gear long enough for my foot to get planted. The last stick I drove consistently was a 5-speed '96 Civic DX over eight years ago - going from that to this is remarkable. That thing felt like it had massive levers to pull between gears, with grinding happening because you didn't pull it quite all the way into gear...

I''ve had two grinds while driving casually in mine. Nothing when I shift fast at redline. Quite peculiar
24" with 1600 miles.

Was going to make another thread about my issue but figured I would ask here first.

23’ FL5..never had the 2nd gear grind. My first to second is actually buttery smooth every time. What I have noticed though..and it’s become a slight annoyance..is a sort of “buzz” feeling in the shift knob when downshifting into 2nd from 3rd. There is no grind noise or extra resistance associated with this. But when downshifting into 2nd from 3rd when the car is cold and warming up, I can feel a buzzing in the shift knob when I hit second just before going all the way into gear. This is mainly when driving slowly , high rpm downshifts I don’t feel this.

the feeling fades when the car warms up but even then occasionally..especially when driving slowly…I get this slight buzz that I can feel in the shift knob

The knob is tight , car only has 8k miles, and I recently changed the factory fill fluid to Amsoil transmission and transaxle 75w-90 lube. This has made the shifts even smother when warm but cold shifting I would say is similar to factory fluid. The buzz was there with the factory fluid as well.

anyone experience anything similar?

if you are really blasting, the solution is simply to shift later

if you are really trying to hit it fast it has the propensity to grind unless you get some thicker mtf

starts to go away though i'm at 7k miles happened a couple of times, one time 2nd gear flat out said "no" during an otherwise very smooth and nicely postured shift, that one was a little spooky.

couple other times i was absolutely slamming as mentioned above which is user error. when i shift at a higher RPM it does not occur.

Yes! I have experienced this. Probably just harmonics of engine speed / rotating components.

Glad someone finally felt the same thing lol. Was hoping I wasn’t the only one and something was inherently wrong with my car.

I’ve noticed it happening a lot less lately. Don’t know if the trans is just breaking in fully. I’ve noticed if not on the brakes when downshifting into 2nd, it tends to not buzz the knob. Maybe the engine rocking forward while heavy on the brakes stretches the cable just enough to get some feedback in the knob ??‍♂. Still no grind associated and it goes into gear fine, just a weird sensation I’ve never felt in any other car. And only on the downshift also, never upshifting and never in any other gear aside from 2nd.

Odd I only get it upshifting lol
damn definitely weird. Does this concern you or do you think it’s normal? I wonder why more people haven’t mentioned feeling this. It’s pretty apparent when it happens

Nah. Will monitor over time and take advantage of the warranty if it needs to be.

What I find amazing is that I had the 2nd gear grind in my 2007 Civic Si FA5, even after the 2nd gear synchro TSB fix...

It seems that this issue plagued Honda transmissions since at least 18 years ago, and they have not yet figured out how to fix it???

Its not a grind like the FA5, its more like a vibration (I have one btw with 320k miles and redline MTF fixed that issue)

Yeah I haven’t grinded my car once. It’s actually a very smooth shift into second. Even the downshift into second is smooth. It’s just, at times, I’ll get this vibration going through the shift knob only when downshifting into second. Seems to be correlated to being heavy on the brakes while downshifting into second. I’ve made it a point to not be on the brakes while downshifting into second and I rarely if ever feel the buzz anymore.
