No, I never implied that. Are you saying the gear grind issue is not real?
I readjusted the pedal per the video I shared and it made a noticable change. There's still some extra resistance getting into second but it seems to be more notchy and not a lockout feeling. Some of this is the hybrid racing shifter. Next is the fluid change.
I might put the factory shifter back in.
Yes it has some stationary and when you lightly pressed the clutch there wIn the video he stated to only adjust it if you had play in yours. Mine had none. Yours had play in it?
Can't tell if you're a troll or not...Hi everyone, Throttle House Journalist also reported this same exact gear Grind Issue in the new FL5 Type R. Check it - He's a professional driver and he grinded it 3 times on track in the same session!
FL5 gear grind issues Throttle House
It seems this should be a recall by Honda if we all scream loud enough.
This is unacceptable for a brand new overpriced Honda Civic car, especially since Type R's have had this same problem since the FK8!
We all love the car, but how can a car selling way above MSRP with a majority of dealerships that treat you like garbage, have such a fatal flaw?!? This is their Halo car for god's sake.
Who knows the Honda CEO's email address?
We have to escalate this!
I rarely redline any gear and most of the grinding occured at the 5k range when shifting. While I'm not going to pretend to know the background of the engineering on the FK8/FL5 transmission I imagine it's like the 5th iteration of a 6 speed K series FWD transmission. They have made improvements with every iteration and this is likely the last generation it will be offered. They're not going to spend millions ground-up redesigning this transmission at this point just to make it bulletproof in every condition. There are packaging limitations and the engineers probably made the decision to sacrifice the extreme use cases (max RPM first gear shifts) for reliability in 3/4 gear.
How many of you are shifting at redline in first gear? It's typically at the traction limits and accompanied with wheel hop. Can you really argue that your foot isn't lifting off the clutch at little early when the car is bucking and hopping? Once you've grinded a gear hard 3-4 times doesn't it make sense that it's more likely to happen in the future?
I don't drag race my car and tend to short shift 1-2 and then roll into 2nd and 3rd gear as needed. I've just rarely understood the need to launch the car and take first gear to redline.
Me neither, I had 28 miles and was babying it when it first happened to me. The fact is, there's people who dedicate their lives to making videos about cars commenting about it. Not our fault. I come from a pretty beefed up si. I had no problems with it in this department.I rarely redline any gear and most of the grinding occured at the 5k range when shifting.
I had a 23' teggy and no issue on that manual as well. I didnt even think about it till now. The clutch on that was really vague on the engagement area which was my main gripe. But i drove it for 20k miles and not a single grind.Me neither, I had 28 miles and was babying it when it first happened to me.
