Please record engine water temps on track if you are running a stock engine. My targets are not to exceed ideal temps - so far max temps —212F ( honda ultimate 0w-20 7.99 cst at 100c ) and 217F( penzoil ultra platinum 0w20 ~ 8.3-4 cst 100c ) at COTA ~ same ambient temp full out on advanced...
Good valid points everyone - let’s stick with the data. Agreed sheer stability really depends on the formulation of the motor oil so far from everything we’ve tested Motul Power stayed within viscosity grade extremely well.
0W-20 vs 5w-30 Lakespeed Junior Latest
Sheer Stability is the most important and running that oil while it's within spec.
Looks like 5W-20 is the most stable. Index viscosity modifiers are the enemy. The closer the numbers are before the W and after, the better the stability of the oil -...
Thanks.. Let's help each other stay focused on the Oil Analysis Data.. Facts have no feelings... It's the only truth that keeps us headed true north....
Keep the data coming... thanks everyone!
Interesting... Does anyone know if the variable oil pump programming is different also on the Type R with those other countries recommending 5w-30 vs 0w-02?
There are lot of factors and variables.
Application dictates formulation + oil change intervals.
All engines oils start to deteriorate and have contamination after 2000 to 2500 miles.
If you want your engine to last forever, 2-3 track days and 2000 miles seems to be the magic proven number...
Looks good.
The golden rule for max longevity is changing the oil every ~2500 miles.
I ran 2 hard track days at COTA and 1 hard open track day at G2 Motorsports on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-20 .... Should have results next month.
Based on what I'm seeing in the data the Pennzoil Ultra...
Interesting observation, today ran COTA hard in advanced group, and with the pennzoil ultra platinum 0w-20 which is slightly thicker higher ~ 8.3cst vs 7.99 cst honda ultimate and the ambient temp was a few degrees cooler than last time, it ran at 217F max water temp vs last time at 212F. I was...
Hey, since you're going to try 5w-30 next, order your Motul 300V 5w-30 from FCPEuro, it's basically a hack - free oil. You purchase it once, drain it and ship it back to them, and they will credit you, and you can do that like 4-5 times a year. They honor that through their lifetime policy.
Thank you for the feedback and you have good points.
My personal Goals are to push my stock type R on track and optimize these three variables.
1) Best UOA data with lowest metal wear scores
2) Coolest Engine Temps
3) Maximum horsepower efficiency
Currently only the 0w-20 engine oils with...
The purpose of this thread is to follow what the data says. If you have data that proves or disproves certain theories, please provide it for the community. The oil UOAs and water temp data is not AI generated. It’s real experiences of real world use on track.
There was a myth and a lot of...
Great data—thank you.
Your KV100 (post-run cSt) on 5W-40 mirrors what we’ve seen on cars that reached ~240 °F coolant running thicker 5W-30s.
What the data is pointing to so far:
Thicker oils raise temps on stock cars and slow recovery. I see the same pattern: as my engine shed break-in...
That’s true that iron is high
Probably changing it every 2500 miles would be perfect. Motul rep recommended 2-3 track days 2500 miles. I’m actually surprised why it lasted so long for a race oil and stayed in grade compared to the 5w30 300v samples someone else posted.
What was your max...
That's pretty impressive data results considering you were modified, tracking the car that hard, and long oil change intervals! 8000-9000 miles oil change intervals is long! 10ppm aluminum over 9,593 miles is amazing! Also it looked like it stayed within grade extremely well. Interestingly...
Excellent feedback. Curious how often - how many track days - how many miles total - did you run the same oil before changing it? Do you by chance have those UOA's - That data would be greatly appreciated for the community.
Haven’t seen that either, only overheating on stock car pulling timing on heavier oil is the only observable difference we’ve seen and 3-5hp difference in dyno.
