This thread has become ridiculous. Coming from someone, who at one point, wasn't making a ton of money, $10k difference or $150-200/month mattered. I have always been into cars and started with WRXs. At the time I could really only afford a base WRX. Did I wish I could spend another $10k+ and get the STI? Of course. But, I had to be reasonable given my budget and that extra amount monthly made a difference.

The EN is a really great option for someone who wants a "performance" car for a decent price. For some the payment difference to the FL5 is just too much of a stretch. Everyone has their unique financial situations with varying priorities/responsibilities.

Can we just move on from this circle of nonsense?
Literally the only point I was trying to make

The entire point of this thread is to compare the FL5 and the EN.

If money is tight and you can’t make a Type R work, you will be happy with the Elantra N. Plus a well driven Elantra N will embarrass a mediocre driver in an FL5, which is priceless!
But isn’t that the same for any lower cost car driven by a faster driver than a higher cost car driven by a mediocre driver? Same “priceless” right?

Definitely! I’ve seen stock civic SI beat Type Rs on the autox course! Shame!!! Shame!!! lol But in all seriousness, it’s all about having fun and becoming a better driver.

In the same token of people value saving $10K on the initial purchase price, a lot of people have reservations throwing a $45K car around a track compared to a $35K car. So take that into consideration when judging people who aren't flogging their FL5 at the same level. In an autocross there really isn't an excuse for losing to an EN or Si though. Lol.

I'd personally never suggest making any "stretch purchase" especially on a deprecating asset. If a few thousand or a few hundred bucks could have a impact on one's household or future. That's definitely not a good choice.

The Hyundai is just ugly. No pedigree or history with enthusiasts. 10k isn't really going to sway anyone with the means to buy a 40k+ car.
Spoken like a true brand nazi. As enthusiasts we should be happu these cars are being made...

I don't see many Elantra N's in my area but I saw one today in the light blue color. The exhaust sounded good (not sure if it was stock) but it was uglier in person than I expected. I thought maybe the photos made it look worse but that's definitely not the case.

You really can't compare it to the Type R IMO. You really can only compare it to the Si in terms of value.

I think the EN is right on the same tier as the CTR, just about as fast, and a more racy soundtrack. CTR feels more like a GT Porsche, EN feels more like an old school rally car. I think the EN is more intuitive to drive, CTR is more surgical.

On my breakfast run today I got to see an Elantra N up close for the first time. Definitely uglier in person. The debate is over and I now have objective photographic proof. Mods can go ahead and close this thread and ban anyone who ever tries to argue in favor of the Heeeyunday on this forum again.
