All 2023 models get Honda Service Pass which is basic maintenance for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles which ever comes. Oil changes, tire rotations and inspections.
The oil it comes with has special additives to dissolve shavings etc., would not recommend changing it that low. Amsoil at around 6,500 for me.There was no way I was going to wait that long. I change mine at 1k when its a new car. And then every 3k.
Nah even with the additives I would not wait that long. 1k miles was more than enough for me and no way I was going to track it with break in oil.The oil it comes with has special additives to dissolve shavings etc., would not recommend changing it that low. Amsoil at around 6,500 for me.
Did mine at 2600 after my first track event. Gonna do it again this week before my upcoming event!I have the quickjack and I love it. A little heavy but it makes working on the cars easy. Also yeah changing the oil is cheap insurance of keeping the engine happy.
Awesome man! I have to change the oil on mine a second time now since I first switched the oil at 1k. Now I’m at about 3500 miles. So once I hit 4k I will change it again. 3k intervals for me.Did mine at 2600 after my first track event. Gonna do it again this week before my upcoming event!
We have similar mileage!Awesome man! I have to change the oil on mine a second time now since I first switched the oil at 1k. Now I’m at about 3500 miles. So once I hit 4k I will change it again. 3k intervals for me.
The trips to Miami every 2 weeks have started to add up for sure. I’m going to switch up this week and give the type R a rest. Which is hard cause I enjoy it so much.We have similar mileage!

Can anyone identify the reference of the "special break in oil" that Honda uses? I can't find anything from Honda or in the owner's manual warning about early oil changes. I have owned a few BMW M cars in the past that specified engine and diff oil changes at approx 1200 miles. Those were just factory fill of Castrol or Mobil 1 synthetics according to the BMW manuals. But I've never seen any mention of special additive break in oils? The oil it comes with has special additives to dissolve shavings etc., would not recommend changing it that low. Amsoil at around 6,500 for me.
Thanks for the info! That makes perfect sense. Assembly lubes leeching into the fill oil probably makes the argument for a 1K to 2K mile early oil change even stronger. Probably one reason why BMW M does the 1.2K mile change at their (BMW) expense. There is no special break in oil. It’s a myth that spread like wildfire.
There’s a high molybdenum content in the factory oil due to the moly used in assembly and manufacture of the engine leeches into the oil. The moly content goes down after first oil change, so people just assumed it was a special oil. It is not. It’s just the extra moly from assembly in the first fill.
There’s tons of threads on Bob Is The Oil Guy on this topic. Google “Honda oil moly bob oil guy” to read some of them.
