Is there any way to disable the keyfob from sending out signals to deterrent theft like Toyota

Faraday pouch works but I rather not putting in and getting it out from the pouch every time

Would be nice if they just implemented an on/off switch on these fobs.

For someone to spoof your signal, they would first have to capture it, so they would have to be within like ~3 feet of you. That code is going to expire very fast so they would have to run like hell to your car to open it.

There is also another code that is for starting your car. So this person would have to capture both of your codes in a short amount of time and be near your car. It doesn't seem feasible at all for a relay attack to work on modern vehicles unless the person is just hiding right by your car as you get out and is somehow able to capture both codes AND you not realize that someone just got in and started your car.

I was paranoid at first when I got this car because it was the first keyless entry car I've owned but the more I researched, there's been quite a leap in security since mid-late 2010's. Hondas from I want to say 2021 or 2022, use cycling, short-expiration codes for both entry and ignition.

:edit:

There are signal amplifiers so theoretically they wouldn't have to be within three feet. Either way, I'd have to know how exactly the ignition signal is sent out. If it's constantly broadcasting or if it only triggers when the start button is pressed in proximity to the fob.

They will find a way...
I'm planning on adding another switch to the clutch pedal that needs to be pressed too in order to start the engine

what if you remove the fuel pressure relay, they can get in all they want but the car simply won't start without fuel... considering most of these thefts are not hauled on a flat bed or towed, they get driven away

Mix up electronic and mechanical deterrents too. I have a steering wheel plate lock and clutch pedal lock as well. Make them work for it and wake up the whole neighborhood grinding metal. Assuming you have to park without a garage.

I'm going to go the route of adding a kill switch for power to the fuel pump, use a faraday pouch for keys, and a modded Air Tag to keep track of the car.

Automobile theft has become a major issue here in Toronto, to the point certain burbs around the city are giving faraday pouches like this away to residents.

It's an annoyance to pull out every time but it's worth the small annoyance to keep what's yours.

It's possible that is a 2021 model. As far as I am aware, 2022+ Hondas aren't vulnerable to these attacks. Also, every relay attack I've seen on camera has been the thieves walk up to the front door with signal amplifiers and try to capture the RF from the fob somewhere near the door. These thieves in this video just went straight to the car.

This is a CANbus injection attack. Adversaries would buy a device sold on the dark net disguised as a JBL speaker, break into the wiring of your headlights which is one node of communication on the bus with your ECU. Once you’ve opened your doors and started your car, the bad actors can then use this device to mimic your keyfob, walk up to your car, unlock the doors and start ignition to drive away.

This is the largest vulnerability for modern cars right now

Where would you go? There is a nice convenient USB device for the FK8 but the company that makes them hasn't done it for the FL5 yet. I like to get a killswitch device installed too but not familiar with how to go about getting one installed

A push button that interrupts the clutch pedal switch.
Decades ago in my old cars, I tapped into that clutch pedal switch cable in such a way that I needed to press the new hidden push button + clutch pedal to be able to start the engine.

Ninja Edit
Our cars have it. Looking for the options out there.

it sucks to pull out the key from the punch and putting it back in but it beats getting the type R stolen!

Thought about a steering wheel lock but it look so early 90s

i like the idea of a kill switch but don’t want someone to mess with the wiring.

so a pouch and an hidden AirTag will do for now

Good starting point for sure. I would remove the speaker from the AirTag though if you decide to go that route.

Just a general fyi, those pouches can fail after some time, so make sure to periodically test and keep a couple of new ones on hand.
