Hello all,
For the past few months, I have been working with the great group of people at Performance Shock, Inc. in developing a custom set of Ohlins TTX coilovers for my FL5.
Today I finally picked them up!
Attached is a quick picture before they go in.
These are the TTX46 in front and the TTX36 ILX in the rear.
We also opted to go with a true coilover in the rear.
Springs are from Hyperco and the rates are 500lbs/in front and 300lbs/in in the back.
If you are interested in a set of these, please hit up the guys at Performance Shock, Inc.
Thanks again Bruce, Cristian and Jayme for making this possible!
Now time to install them and get them dialed at the track.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

First test drive complete.
I took the car to a road nearby that has many small undulations due to uneven asphalt.
With the oem suspension, it would result in a pogo effect even in comfort mode. Something with the logic of the ads automatically stiffens up the stock dampers and leads to upsetting the chassis.
With the Ohlins r&t, the undulations were dampened but felt harsh with each successive hit, especially in the rear.
Now with the Ohlins TTX coilovers, the undulations feel like they aren’t even there!
The small bump sensitivity and response of these dampers are on a level I have never experienced before in vehicle.
Next is an alignment recheck and corner weighting and then time to shake down at the track.

I'm assuming you plan on tracking your car, any reason for going with a true coilover in the rear versus a divorced setup?

Is the car caged or any additional bracing in the rear for the coilover setup.

What was the thought process that went into the spring rate selection?

Seems like the fronts a little on the stiff side vs the rear.

The true coilover provides an overall lighter package for the rear, as well as affording a more direct relationship between the spring rates and wheel rate. We are hopeful that this should yield a more direct feel of the rear end.
The true coilover also allows for a lower spring rate to be chosen for the rear to achieve the desired wheel rate. Coming from the 10kg/mm rear spring rates of Ohlins road and track kit, I welcome the softer rear springs.
I am also running the Karcepts rear anti sway bar to dial in rotation at the track.
The front and rear spring rates were chosen after consideration of the of the sprung weight, motion ratio, static load and effective wheels rates calculations.

We chose stainless steel material for the rear upper top mount for its high load strength capabilities. The guys at PSi also designed the mount to maximize the mating surface area to help distribute the load. Also, if you look behind the interior panels, you will see that the shock towers are highly braced from the factory. I am running a PRL rear strut bar to aid with some chassis deflection.

Great info and sounds like they took all the right things into consideration.

The longer motion arm on the spring slipped my mind initially but that makes sense why a softer spring can be ran.

Please contact Performance Shock, Inc. in Sonoma, CA for pricing.
They cost a mountain of pennies, but to me they are worth it.

I called the company as directed. This has been my experience thus far. A gentleman answered the phone. I awkwardly described why I was calling. I had to repeat the OP's username and that the custom suspension was for the FL5. The gentleman immediately advised me that he would "have to consult with his team on the details and price of the kit because it was a one off". Hours later, no callback.

Can you just tell us how much money this cost so we just have an idea. I mean, a standard road and track setup for the FL5 sits in the $3K range. So, I am assuming this is close to triple that all things considered (custom setup, labor, tax, etc)

Let us know brother. This is truly an amazing system for a hard-core track setup.

Hey guys,
This setup is for those seeking the best components for the chassis.
I cannot comment on pricing as I honestly do not know how PSi will price the production kits.
But if you look around, you can see pricing of the comparable bmw ttx-pro kits available now.
I truly believe it is worth it, as it feels as though my car has been transformed into a corner monster! And I haven’t even began to dial in the damping settings yet!!
Because of this experience, I will be also upgrading my s2000 from the r&t to the ttx coilovers soon.

For all of the engineering wish they could come up with a better solution to mount the cancelation module.
