American Honda Offers Outlook on 2026 U.S. Automobile Business

January 14, 2026
  • American Honda provides 2026 sales projections and product roadmap for the Honda and Acura brands
  • Honda unveils a prototype of the Honda Base Station, a towable travel trailer developed by engineers and designers at its U.S. R&D centers
  • Next generation Acura RDX will be a hybrid
American Honda today outlined its 2026 U.S. automobile business outlook during its annual media briefing with Vice President of Sales, Lance Woelfer, including a review of 2025 sales performance and a preview of the year-ahead product roadmap.

"Nearly all of our Honda and Acura models have been redesigned or upgraded in the last 18 months, giving us one of the freshest lineups in the industry heading into 2026," said Woelfer. "For American Honda, we are focused on delivering the right mix of gas-powered and hybrid vehicles to meet customer demand for affordable, high-value products."

Automobile Sales Highlights

  • American Honda posted sales of 1,430,577 units in 2025, its best year since 2021, a year over year increase of 0.5%. The sales increase was achieved despite the impact of changes in market conditions and a microchip shortage that contributed to leaner inventories in the 4th quarter.
  • Honda CR-V achieved record sales, with the model posting over 400,000 units for the second consecutive year, with hybrid models comprising 54% of sales.
  • Electrified models, which include CR-V Hybrid, Accord Hybrid, Civic Hybrid, all-new Prelude and the all-electric Prologue, combined to deliver record sales for the third straight year.
  • The company is preparing for a more competitive market heading into 2026, with industry SAAR forecasted in the high 15-million to low 16-million-unit range.
  • In 2026, American Honda is projecting total sales of 1.5 million units, up 4% compared to last year.
  • Both the Honda and Acura brands are anticipating modest sales increases in 2026, with Honda topping 1.35 million units and the Acura brand targeting sales of around 135,000 units.
  • American Honda enters 2026 with a lower-than-average days' supply as the company continues to recover from supply chain disruptions that occurred in the fall of last year.
2026 Product Cadence
American Honda is maintaining a flexible and balanced strategy to stay competitive and adapt to evolving market conditions. In 2026, to meet customer needs for affordability, the company will increase production of more value-oriented trims of core Honda models (CR-V, Civic, Accord) and gateway Acura models (ADX and Integra).

"With average new car prices hitting record highs across the industry, cost is a growing concern, and we want the Honda and Acura brands to continue to be recognized for delivering incredible value to our customers," said Woelfer.
Following are other product highlights and updates:

Acura
  • The Acura RSX electrified SUV will arrive in the second half of 2026. It will be the first Acura EV model produced at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, on the same flexible production lines that build gas and hybrid vehicles.
  • The high-performance Integra Type S will receive exterior and interior improvements.
  • MDX will see additional product enhancements in the second half of 2026.
  • The next generation RDX, currently under development, will feature the brand's first application of a two-motor hybrid system when it comes to market within the next couple of years. The current RDX, which was introduced in 2018, will suspend production this year. RDX originally debuted in 2006 and has achieved cumulative U.S. sales of nearly 740,000.
Honda
  • The refreshed 2026 Honda Pilot began arriving at Honda dealerships in mid-December with a significantly larger touchscreen, improved steering feel, a quieter cabin, bold new styling and upgraded safety features. The collection of meaningful upgrades will maintain the Honda Pilot as the benchmark in the midsize three-row SUV category.
  • The Honda S+ Shift feature, introduced on the Prelude, will be added to the Civic Hybrid later this year. S+ Shift simulates a performance transmission for an enhanced electrified driving experience.
  • The Civic Type R will receive updates this year, including exterior and interior styling changes.
Honda Base Station Prototype

  • Honda unveiled a prototype of the Honda Base Station, an all-new towable travel trailer developed by engineers and designers at Honda's U.S. R&D centers in California and Ohio.
  • The Honda Base Station is well suited to take advantage of the explosive growth in outdoor lifestyle industry, especially among young families. There are over 80 million campers in the U.S. including 15 million first timers in the last two years.
  • Featuring modularity, integrated smart technology, and clever packaging, the Honda Base Station introduces segment-first innovations unique to Honda.
  • The Honda Base Station can be stowed in a residential garage and towed by many popular vehicles, including the Honda CR-V, as well as EVs like the Honda Prologue and upcoming Honda 0 Series SUV, while remaining competitively priced in the lightweight travel trailer segment.
  • Additional Honda Base Station information can be found here.

no...they did an 'update' to the standard Integra. And that will last til the 2029 model, or a NEW version all together every 6-7 years.

If they do an infotainment update similar the rest of the civic lineup with Log R compatibility, I'll swap head units.

This will be for the MY27. The MY26 is already reported for no changes and I wouldn't be surprised if the MY27 changes put it over $50K MSRP.

Well...the Type S has NO changes for 2026, so not sure what they are talking about.
Clearly this is in reference to calendar year 2026.

I mean a 5k markup in 2023 is what everyone is paying standard now…
That is one hell of a glass half full view lol. It doesn't matter at all that the extra $5k just went to line the dealer's pockets?

Anyway, none of that shit matters now. $5k is not a life-changing amount of money and I'm sure to those who've had their cars since then they're glad they made the purchase. (The ones that financed for $70k+ over 8 years, maybe not...)

All this makes sense. A slight tweak to a working formula in this market that's veering sharply away from electric vehicles seems like a solid business decision. I'm hoping this is signaling a change in the tide for all manufacturers, pointing back in a direction that's more favorable to the enthusiast market.

Feels like the first good news I've heard in months, I'm going to let myself be happy about this.

I think the update will be like it was for the fk8, so probably signalling the end of the FL5 in prep for the next gen one

The MSRP will go up anywhere between $1000-$1500 depending on the changes. Based on the ramblings I've heard, some changes for MY27 include adding Google built-in added to the touchscreen and updating it to be similar to the Acura ADX and Passport, where you can now watch videos on the screen, USB-C ports, updated front and rear fascias. Power will remain unchanged (They'll let HRC products handle the power upgrades). Don't quote me on any of this though, I haven't confirmed yet.

Generally when Honda announces changes/updates to a model it does also mean that that model has a couple more years of life left in it as well. So the FL5 MIGHT be around until MY29. Honda rarely ever does major final year updates, the most recent was the MY14 Civic Si coupe.
