Why does it feel like the default option for aftermarket wheels is 18s? The FL5 can sort of pull off the look although I don't personally like it, but to me it looks actually ridiculous on the DE5. I'm not convinced that downsizing really yields any substantial performance or comfort benefit, and enough people have complained about dynamics like steering being impacted in a negative way that there's no way in hell I'll consider putting 18s on my car.

With the popularity of people putting 18s on their FL5s, it seems that 19" options in high offsets are few and far between. Hopefully this changes eventually.

As for "cheap" wheels, I don't see why anyone would do this vs the OEM wheels. Even if they're cheap, it's still over a grand you're throwing away when you have perfectly acceptable wheels already on the car. Plus as someone else mentioned, can't you get the factory forged wheels at a reasonable cost from a dealer? That seems the way I'd go if I had an FL5...

Personally I'm looking at wheels for this car like a fashion accessory that also happens to be semi-functional. All things being relative, good luck finding a Rolex for $6k. For me a set of Volks feels like a bargain, and if I can save some weight over OEM without ruining the steering it's a win for me. So if folks are also looking at wheels to change the look of the car, then I still fail to see the logic in going cheap, unless you just really like the look and don't care about performance... in that case why even bother with the Type R? Just get an Si and mod it to your liking.

As with most things, you generally get what you pay for.
Some people will do it for looks others for performance.

I personally dislike large wheels, I hated the 20’s on the FK8 thought they were stupid on a performance car. The 19’s on the FL5 were a big improvement. I will still downsize to 18’s since I personally like smaller wheels with more side wall for tires. You do lose a bit of responsiveness due to more sidewall flexing. But that is what track tires are for. They have very stiff sidewalls to not lose the responsiveness yet absorb imperfections better due to more cushion. Also 19’s will always weigh more than any smaller wheel, so the weight savings on rotational mass pay dividends as long as you keep the whole diameter of the wheel tire combo close enough.

Everyone has their own thoughts process and what are important factors for them. I think there is no right or wrong answers. Depends on what you want.

For me, going 18" - I lost some steering sharpness and would prefer stock wheels. After back & forth, personally I decided to stay at 19" and upgrade to Volk, trying to keep the offset between +44 or +45 so I don't lose too much sharpness of stock +60 (which optimized for FL5 by Honda engineers). I'm also aware that 19" will run a risk of pothole/damage. It is risk that I'm willing to take. Not to mention, more expensive tires ... LOL

To each of their own :)

Speaking of how difficult (impossible?) it is to find aftermarket 18” or 19” wheels with a +60 offset, it kinda made me realize that taking care of my stock 19’s needs to be a top priority. I plan on keeping this car for a looooong time. I love the stock wheels too. Maybe I should just get a 2nd set and put larger tires on (for long road trips and such). I know at least one or two others here who have gone the route of larger tires on their stock set for daily use.?

Yeah, to all the above, plus people are getting 18’s because they’re more daily-able ; Less worries about potholes. Keep in mind the FL5 doesn’t come with a spare. @optronix
This doesn't make sense to me. More daily-able than the wheels that came on the car? Where do people live where potholes are really that big of an issue where changing to a smaller diameter wheel really makes a significant impact? Most if not all dealers offer wheel and tire packages that almost surely will come out to less than the cost of even cheap wheels and tires, and is refundable if you move on from the car before it expires.

The popularity of 18s deriving from FK8 owners makes a little more sense. 18s do legitimately look good on those cars and I agree that 20s is a bit too much... but the FL5 has been out for a while now and everywhere I look there's still just a default expectation that people want 18s. I guess this may extend to Japan too because most of the wheels I'm interested in putting on this car are JDM brands. Seeing 18s on a couple DE5s now, there's just no way, I'll stay OEM forever before I'd buy 18s.

Apex seems like they're catching on to the DE5 trend; these are just fantastic and are high on my list of available options: https://apexwheels.com/gallery/acur...integra-type-s-19-vs-5rs-motorsport-gold-1500

But the selection of other brands in 19s with remotely tolerable offsets and bolt patterns isn't very impressive IMO, unless I'm just not looking in the right places. I'm about to slap some Michelin A/S4s on my OEM wheels to get through the mid-Atlantic winter, but I'll be revisiting this in spring and hopefully there are more options available...

Had a FK8 prior and twice a year I swap from stock wheels with stock summer tires to/from 18” TEs with all season tires. I don’t have a lift so it’s jacking up one corner at a time to swap. These wheels with tires are heavy. It’s a hour long workout basically. If there was a way to fit 17”s on with all season tires to save my back, I’d do it. I miss the days of 15”-17” wheels. Luckily I still get to use 17”s on the other car.

@optronix I guess you’ve never spent much time up north. Hahaha! Potholes, ESPECIALLY after winter, can be absolutely horrendous. I’ve seen potholes so huge they have F’d up not only people’s wheels but also their suspension. It’s crazy. Not saying 18’s would survive something that extreme, but they’d do MUCH better for the “normal” big potholes. It’s just less to worry about if you’re on a long road trip too.

Note not all people are interested in wheel/tire packages from the dealer either. This typically only covers the stock wheels…and if the stock wheels are not sufficient for the case I outlined, then it’s not as useful as buying smaller wheels. It’d largely be a waste of time and money.

Last year, one rainy night coming off the GWB to west side hwy, hit a huge pot. So loud, I thought it was gonna be real bad. About 200 meters away, at least 10 cars pulled to the side, one after another, changing to spares. Luckily I didn’t have to pull over. No flat. The car didn’t drive weird. It would’ve been hell pulling over with a baby in the backseat. A day later, went to inspect damages. Huge dent in my TE. Sent pictures to the vendor and Rays engineering. They never saw a dent like that. Tried to get the wheel repaired. The wheel shop said they couldn’t even mount it on the machine because the center has shifted plane. Very long story short, I was out of a TE. But perhaps if I wasn’t on forged wheels, I’d be joining the others, changing to a spare.

You know how in driving school they say eyes up, look as far ahead as possible. Try that when driving through NYC with 19”-22” wheels ?
I try and keep a distance of about 30ft from car in front to give me enough time to swerve from the NYC potholes. LIE is crap as well but at least you can create some space from car in front to avoid them.
im jelly of all you good roads people

I'm still on my white SuperSpeed wheels...love them!
Wheels always have rocks and stuff bouncing off or hitting the wheels so any wheel set will take a small amount of abuse for road debris.

I don’t think this is the case. They look similar but they are not identical. There are many wheels that have this styling on the market.

I lost a lot of interest in Titan 7 when I found out they were manufactured in China.

Most rims are made in China or Vietnam unless it is a JDM specific brand. However after a bit of back and forth and more importantly my boy cracking a stock rim they come in a Honda box with Titan7 logos. Google it
