I've driven the Cayman GTS in a manual. Awesome car but it stickered nearly 100k and its a toy more than a mode of transportation. I think for that much I'd go for a slightly used first gen v10 R8 or a AMG GTS.
I did a PCE day in a PDK GTS (pre 4.0) and yeah I'd have to agree. Brutally efficient, almost too good if that makes sense...but ultimately a lot of scratch for a third/fourth car that was fast approaching 911 prices if you want it optioned to look/feel interesting...bare bones spec is not even worth mentioning.

I think I'd still take one over a 911 but tbh if we're talking weekend-mostly toys, the 4C left a more lasting impression and doesn't cost 100k+. Hope the Emira can provide a similar experience without being as taxing on the body.

in the same spectrum, a C8 Z51 is amazing if you can somehow ignore that the Z06 exists.

The world needs a few more sub 80k mid-engine cars before petrol gets a curtain call...

Comparing the prices of the 911 and 718 GT4 doesn't make sense -- they're very different cars.
they're both porsche and 2 seater sports cars mostly. Why? Granted the base porsche is shopped by a dentist instead of a enthusiast. My mortgage closing lawyer couldn't stop talking about the base porsche he bought.

Yeh price of a base 911 you can get a gt4
Unfortunately one can't just hand them a check for the same amount and call it a sale. Getting a GT-anything in Porscheland is an ordeal for any new orders (2X in the current market). Even enthusiasts with the cash but not the same connections end up going for a CPO later on.

one is mid-engined, the other is rear. it's not like comparing a mustang and camaro. the 911 and 718 gt4 have very different driving experiences.

i think we can both agree that the 911 and 718 gt4 are highly cross-shopped, but maybe we're debating different things here :p

hehe -- I may be a part of that group, although I am far from rich.

I was waiting for used 911 prices to drop but i've been a honda fanboy since the 90s and when i saw the new type r my plans all changed.

Generally the older I'm getting, buying a expensive car does not make me happy. I'd rather have the money invested or go on trips. I find that all the car I need is under 30. Paid about 23k for my GTI practically new. Has parking sensors, adaptive suspension, heated seats and a kickass stereo. All the car one needs. I always wanted a Type R but couldn't afford it in college so trying to treat myself to one... seems like its going to be much harder to get.

i'm on the FIRE train so getting any new car goes against my retirement goals. but i've lived bored out of my mind for too many years and i want to treat myself. the 911 was a huge a stretch goal -- on the other hand, the type r wouldn't stress my budget much at all.

Congratulations to the Yanks and the Canuks - seems you are very close to FL5 reality now...
Meanwhile down here in the arse end of the world...crickets...
Regardless, the time this is taking has given me time for some clarity.

So...

If the Aussie pricing is fair, and the reviews show good comfort in comfort mode, I'm getting a CTR.

If either of those two factors is missing, I'm still getting one as I'm first on the list and can no doubt re-sell to someone who is more desperate than I am.

At that point, I will either get a comfortable daily (Giulia Veloce, green over tan, Lusso pack, 5 hole wheels, no sunroof) or if I am feeling courageous, lightly used AMG A45s in white or silver with bucket seats. The wildcard is a Lexus GS-F. But finding one to drive is not easy down here.

That's it.

RULED OUT
GR Corolla - never in the hunt - too ugly, hideous interior/dash.
2023 M2 - too ugly and too expensive (150k on the road in Oz with bucket seats).
Audi RS3 - half-baked chassis.
Macan S or GTS - amazing (especially on air suspension) but too expensive.
Lexus LS460 - amazing comfort and creamy smooth V8 engine but just too big/long.
Panamera GTS - dream car - but too expensive for me, even if I trade in the GT4 and have the GTS as my only car!
