Definitely better than the one on my GTS. The Honda's shifter is smoother and less notchy, which is something that I prefer. I think the Porsche clutch pedal is much heavier and has better feel though, could just be me.

I daily drove both a 981 and 718 GT4 for a combined 4 years and 30k miles along with a brief stint in 991.2 GT3 6 speed. I’ll say that Porsche GT shifters are probably the closest you can get to Type R but I’ll still give slight edge to Honda. It’s smooth and slick. However I prefer the clutch engagement on Porsche as it’s a little heavier.
Thank you both for your feedback! I have a GT4 and GT3 and have always heard how great Honda shifters have been. Basically looking at the CTR for the shifter feel alone. Glad to hear the Honda shifter edges out the Porsches and can't wait to try it!

I work for Porsche. Will be happy to get you into a 911 when you’re ready! I almost ordered a G80 multiple times and even placed a deposit on M3CS but just couldn’t pull the trigger. Too big and heavy with little feel. Fast af tho.
so you're saying you can get me a 992 gt3 at msrp? o_O

I know much has been made of the comparisons between the two. I have high praise for the FL5 transmission; however, I don't agree it's better than the transmission in a GT car. Many, myself included, would argue the manual gearbox in the GT3/GT4 is the best in the business. Where the FL5 transmission falls down is the shifter feel is too smooth and not mechanical enough, there's a noticeable amount of play in the shifter when in gear, the clutch pedal is on the lighter side, and the automatic rev-matching function is a tick (or two) slow. When you drive the Porsche and Honda back-to-back, you immediately notice these differences. For those reasons I can't give the FL5 transmission the nod. I also realize people perceive these things differently. Anyhow, would be interested in your perspective once you're able to drive the FL5.

@Clark_Kent you are not the only one who brought up the noticeable amount of play while in gear (Alanis King in the review below said the same), however, I thought it might have been a one-off with the press vehicle.

I still need to find a FL5 to test drive and feel for myself. Is more robust bushings the solution to limit play?

unfortunately at that level, it's not up to the sales people. GM usually has to OK it and they usually have bidding wars or it goes to their friends&family, or requires a trade in at well below market value :( Been through the game a few times with Porsche, it's rough out there.

Not too different from how the CTR market was last year, except the GT market hasn't cooled in the same way lol

What are the preferred settings for street driving? I’ve got steering in sport, suspension in comfort, and +R for everything else.
Other than suspension, i don't really feel a huge difference between the different modes. I have individual set to +R everything except suspension in comfort, and when i drop down to comfort mode, i will forget i changed modes lol.

It’s much, much better out of state. Buy a car or two off of the dealer and you can get closer to that MSRP deal.

A macan, cayenne or Taycan which will lose 50% driving off the lot, so it’s effectively still ADM…unless you really need one of those cars lol. True

Hmm… I haven’t noticed much play in my shifter. Maybe they fixed it for 2024?

Exactly. I’d rather pay the markup and just get what I want instead of being forced to buy a Taycan.

450 mile update. I love this car. I subconsciously grab the Type R keys pretty much whenever I’m about to head out. It’s just a joy to drive at any speed. I can’t think of one car that does so much so well, especially at this price point. Gonna do my first track day with it soon. Anything I need to be aware of?

There are several threads and posts on this by different members. @PointByPatrol has essentially created the FL5 track playbook. I would start with his threads and/or videos. @keller is versed as well on tracking this car.

Good afternoon, it’s my first post here. Wanted to introduce myself. Picked up a 24 Sonic Gray Pearl FL5 on Saturday.

Had a CW FK8 before. Drove it for 2 years before it was traded in for a 718 Cayman GT4.

Only done about 40 miles in the FL5 but I’m so glad to have it in the lineup. The seats and shifter are world class. I test drove a new BMW M2 and while it was fast and capable, it felt absolutely soul less compared to CTR. There is a very specific feeling I like in my cars and that X factor is abundant in the new CTR. Also loving the new tech and more mature exterior look. Let me know if there’s any basic mods or QOL settings I need to know.

Here’s the car with some of its stablemates. I’m not an SUV guy so I’m amazed how the CTR can balance practicality and fun.

Congrats!

With all of the cars that you’ve experienced, what’s the significance of the Evo_X username? lol

I had an Evo X back in 2008! It just became my online identity across forums I suppose.

Gotcha. I have one too(2014). An FL5 should be in my garage within a months time.
