FWIW I want to test drive an FL5 before buying one. As much as I want one, I haven't drank enough Kool-Aid to be willing to drop $40k+ blindly. It's absolutely a great car, but I won't know if it's my kind of "great" until I sit in it.


ND drivetrain and chassis is also much, much less complex. Fewer things to break, cheaper to fix.

I doubt there'll be any to test drive and even if there was onre sitting at a dealership most won't let you test drive. Test drive an Si and then do your best to imagine it with 120+ more Hp, nicer seats and better control. That might get you close to the feeling.

I'm expecting the same. My plan is to check out an FK8 in one of my local groups and, hopefully, someone will get an FL5 sooner than later.

I only put down a deposit with dealers that confirm it is refundable "at any time for any reason." This would include right before signing for the car, after taking it for a spin. Though I doubt I'll ever have to test the limits of the definition.

Truthfully, if the dealers don't mark up the price, likely many people who buy one will resell it for max value anyway ?‍. Markups probably draw out more of the "fanboys" anyway

I have a deposit down for one at 10k over, it is what it is. i'll get one of the first vehicles that dealer receives and i can stop being a worrywort about tracking one down at "first-come-first-serve" with hopes of getting a better deal. i'm also in dire need of a new car, so i would easily end up wasting some amount of thousands of dollars on an interim vehicle if I decided to wait it out for a couple of years to get an MSRP deal just to save 10k... yeah it's a lot of money, but I have purposely been driving a shitty car and living in a shitty apartment complex saving money for such an occasion. And weighing the ADM over a span of time from now to some hypothetical point in time when one of these could be found at MSRP, I think I would be fine with that cost to time ratio.

We have every right to shame. They’re artificially inflating the price. If everyone decided not to pay markups, they wouldn’t be any.

It's really tough. If all of them were sold at MSRP, there would be a massive supply issue, not to mention the after-market private sales issue that Ford ran into with the GT. Clearly there isn't a demand issue even if it's marked up to $10k over. I'm not a fan of the markups (I'd like one for a reasonable price), but I also understand the market demands in a normal market, much less the COVID-hampered market with its associated supply chain issues and overall supply complications.

If I had a generous 7-figure income, I'd probably have an 2000-ish NSX, a 911 Sport Classic, and the Type R would be a decent family hauler. But if I'm honest, with that cash and the other cars, I'd probably take an X5M Competition or something. It makes sense to drop some extra cash if yoru'e a die hard Honda fanboy and really want one, so I'm not faulting the guy there.

The car has a market value. The manufacturer is suggesting a retail price. It's a guide. I'm sure you were aware that when you paid less than it for your Golf. If it's value you seek then look at what people are getting for their FK8 with 20-30-40k on them...

But yeah... Shame people. Cool.
