I was consistently at like 70% brake application. I'm going to try a slightly more forward seating position and practice of course.

I decided to skip on the Barber MSP event with Chin Track Days and am going to do Mid-Ohio with a PCA group instead. Plus 2 more local events that are just under 2 hours away. If weather stays nice maybe squeeze something in around thanksgiving :D

My wife refers to the R as the son I never had ? I'm gonna have to build up to this. I have 4 daughters I never cared about having a son she thinks it's funny how I treat it lol.

I'm always down for VIR, but I like CMP too! Haven't tried Road Atlanta yet. VIR is hallowed ground. One of the most technical tracks in our area. Lessons learned at VIR are easily translated to other tracks. You've got lots of elevation change, esses, tight corners, long corners etc. It basically has it all. It's tricky getting the line right, it's tricky with braking zones, and the corners are tricky. It's a great place to learn a lot of information every lap.

Very soon you will have code brown on the red caliper

Hate that people think this is a badge of honor. Typically means you’re in ABS too much, or using a pad with less than ideal thermal capacity and it’s transferring it into your caliper.

Goal is to strive for fast laps with those letters staying white.

Opinions please - help me pick a track for a fall HPDE weekend - which would you pick?

Mid-Ohio
Road Atlanta
Barber Motorsports Park

These are all about the same distance from home, and all have at least a few events this fall with different groups. I've only watched IMSA @ Mid-Ohio, have never been to the others.
Road Atlanta stands as one of the most thrilling places I’ve driven in the country. High Risk - High Reward.

How is abs activation related to heat management? Serious question I have no idea.

He just means that the sticker changes color when too much heat is getting into the caliper, which could point to overuse of the brakes. Sure the ABS system is going to generate heat because your foot is to the floor, but this can also be caused by applying the brakes for extended periods of time. The goal is to slow down quickly and get back on the gas quickly. Some drivers, typically when they're still nervous will brake unnecessarily early and not use full pedal pressure. For example: let's say the end of a straightaway has markers 5,4,3,2,1. You decide to brake at the 5, and I decide to brake at the 3. We both release the brakes at the apex of the upcoming turn and carry on. I generated less heat than you because I wasn't on the brakes for as long as you, but I was still able to slow down to the vmin apex speed. I had to hit the brakes harder than you, but in this example I'm using less pad, and generating less heat because the duration of my braking was shorter.

Got it. More efficient use of the system. In theory shorter time+stronger application of brakes vs. longer+weaker prolonged application.

Yes. Now keep in mind that abs will generate increased fluid pressure/heat because the ABS pump is running too. I never hit ABS on the track. I've been told I'm wrong, and that I should activate the ABS, but I've managed to put down decent lap times without triggering the ABS. I brake just hard enough to stay out of it. I will concede that the ABS computer/system can do a better job of slowing a car down than any human can, but I'm stubborn, and I'm going to just keep braking the way I feel comfortable.

Yea, forgot about the pump that would add some heat. My instructor was trying to get ABS activated as well - I think just to prove how much more brake effort I was leaving on the table UP TO ABS. It's eye opening how much more stopping power is available to a newbie like myself.

BUT none of us are professionals so I'll just keep trying to incrementally improve lol.
