I didn't drill anything
I don’t remember all of the steps from seeing an installation done by Gridzilla on his YT channel. What parts did you have to cut? Sans the drilling, are you content with the solution?

Seems he got an early produced or defective unit. Luckily, my fitment was perfect. I trimmed a portion of the front air dam and brake cooling duct. Could have been cleaner cuts, but I used sheers lol. No one will ever see it anyway

Installed the Alcantara steering wheel today. I only wish it was a little thicker!

Looks wonderful!

I was wondering: you seem to have wrapped the carpet near the dead pedal in plastic? Does it work? I'm still trying to figure out the ideal solution to protect that very sensitive area.

dude, good eye! It works great! I just took some packing tape, cut it to shape and made it less sticky by dabbing the sticky side a bit with my fingers. I can't even tell its on there!

I bought a thin plate of aluminum and bent & trimmed it to fit.

I like your custom under-pedal mat there too!
Yeah, I wish I had been a little more patient and got it PERFECT but... no one's looking down there really so it's "all good". I tried Tuxmats but they were just too much for me, too much work to pull out for cleaning and the clutch pedal felt sticky since it would touch it at full press (worked fine but I could feel it).

Why not use a full size mat instead? ???‍♂ I have these: https://a.co/d/b4lRLSa

I went so far as to buy a set of 3D Maxpider mats. But at the end of the day I didn't enjoy the utilitarian look in a car I rarely drive. I was also concerned about two things:
1. It seemed to me that the lip of the mats dug into the carpet and would leave a mark after a while.
2. That repeated removal for cleaning would tear fibers off the carpet (they grip it too strongly).

If only the OEM high-wall carpet mats would cover the entirety of the dead pedal they'd be perfect. In my opinion.

I am thinking of complementing them with a small custom-made mat to cover the exposed half of the dead pedal and the strip of carpet to the right of it. Attached to the dead pedal with velcro.

I just added my 3d Maxpider from my FK8 do you think they're better than the OEM high wall carpet? I was looking at those too. I barely drive the car I just want to protect the driver side.

I used some fabric, cut to length, on both sides of the mats to prevent any marks left in the carpet. The maxpider mats use very rigid plastic for some reason, so I was afraid of carpet damage like you.

Also, I have removed my mats for cleaning at least 10 times by now and never saw even a single red fiber on the underside of the mats. Pulling them out straight up rather than dragging them works perfectly for me.

One flaw about the maxpider mats is the rivets on the back of the mats leave small impressions on the carpet if left uncovered, so I also used some fabric to cover the bottom area where the rivets are to prevent any marks in the carpet

I had the two above-mentioned concerns about the 3D Maxpider mats. However @DRGN just posted a mitigation strategy for the first. And the second seems to be unwarranted. So there you go! ?
