Civic Type R vs. Porsche 911

Lucky enough to have both in my garage. Fl5 is a fun 4 door fwd and very difffent driving dynamics when compared to a 911. My 911 is a 991.2 Gts tuned. I do agree that the 911s turbos doesn’t stretch its legs til about 4000 rpm but pulls very hard to redline where as the Fl5s turbo spools very early on making it more fun around town but loses steam up top. Both are incredibly fun to drive on B roads regardless. I owned a 991.2 C4S also with the smaller turbos and those spooled more akin to the type R and was also a blast around town.

Yes, you ARE lucky... and yes, that's the feeling i got... the feeling i was trying to convey. Sorta like FL5 being the fastest Collegiate runner... vs. the 911 being the fastest Olympian athlete. Thank you.

@1971Camaro I think he’s laughing because they’re totally opposite vehicles. When I read it, I thought it was funny too. But I think I understand where you’re coming from. A Cayman would’ve been within budget despite nearly zero practicality. Maybe you were thinking about hitching a small trailer to it to make it more practical (like a Cayenne)? We don’t know.?

Unfortunately I’ve never driven a Porsche. That’s awesome they let you try out a brand new 911. I bet pulling up in the FL5 had something to do with that. Makes me want to see if a Porsche dealership would let me take a 911 out for a spin.

Practicality is true...i need to put this into perspective. When i wasn't needing to carry sports and camping gear and had more flexibility, i went through a Camaro, 2 mustangs, and 2 Zs. But i most recently came from a 2003 Honda CRV. As badly as i wanted a performance car, i also was afraid of going into cargo-space withdrawal. So, i was initially looking for something equivalent to my manual xmission CRV. well... nada. So, about anything was fair game

Never owned, but have driven a low mile 1998, 2006, 2007-9 Boxster and Boxster S , and one 1999 911. And a 944 Turbo, Very different animals. The 944 had the most direct steering, the Boxster S was the all around winner, and the 911 very special but not as relatable for me.
Only room for two cars in the garage, and not giving up the CTR. And spouse won't let go of her Lexus 2+2 convertible coupe. So no Porsche for me.

Curious though, what year/generation and what seat? I've honestly never sat in the 14 ways and always thought they looked ridiculous in a Porsche but some people swear by them.

Typically Porsche people refer to generations by the model code (e.g., 996, 991.2, etc.). I don't feel like wikipedia-ing the sequential generations of Turbo 911s, I don't really care for the Turbo anyway.

It doesn't really matter, opinions on seats are incredibly subjective. I loved the seats in mine; all of mine were 18-ways. As mentioned I didn't care for the 14-ways and actively avoided them.

I will agree with you on the Turbo being boring though. It's just a big dumb animal, ridiculously overpriced and just seems to do one thing really well- go very fast in a straight line. Too fast IMO. (All are AWD by the way) They don't even really sound that great, relative to other Porsches, even the "regular" turbo 6s in the 991.2 and 992 Carreras.

You didn't drive the right 911. In fact I'd rather drive any base Carrera over a 992 Turbo S any day of the week.

No, I seriously don't like the Turbo.

edit- 996/997 with a manual are exceptions. GT2 is an absolute exception. You can keep the rest, might as well buy a Tesla if you want a fast appliance.

993 Carrera 4S convinced me it’s not the right 911 for me. Its ass pendulums like a grandfather clock

The 911 is the halo car for Porsche, I get it. But I have a soft spot for a mid-engine, rear wheel drive car. History will be very kind to the 981 and 718(982).
