At one point or another we’ve all worked through regrets with respect to being an automotive enthusiast. Is there anything about the FL5 you regret? If so, what specifically do you regret and what would you do differently? It could be anything from paint color selection to modifications to ADM to the purchase of the car itself. It could also be the inverse. For example, it could be something you decided against, but in retrospect realize you should've done or should've done sooner. These insights and/or experiences may help others make decisions.

Not getting it PPF’d as soon as I got it would be mine. Got a small chip in the paint already in the front bumper.

None really. The offer and transaction came out of no where since I was expecting to keep the FK8. I am happy with the financial numbers. It was in the only color I was interested in.
I suppose I could have pushed harder for some accessories to be included the agreed upon $5k markup.
Otherwise, it’s a good purchase. The wife likes/thinks it drives better than the FK8 despite the boring looks.

I got a somewhat early wave (February) so I paid 10k markup. Wasn't ideal and still not super thrilled about paying so much for a Honda Civic. I knew beforehand and still know that it will never really be that fast, specifically in a straight line, so when the random Mustang owner on the highway wants to race, I know I'll likely get smoked even though my car would likely demolish him on a road course.

Little things like that get under my skin. Makes me second guess myself about not buying a Supra or M2. Then a day will come where I have to haul a bunch of things and I am thankful that I bought a Civic.

Less on regret but now an insatiable desire to further dial in the sharpness and connectedness to the road. Some people get hooked on power (on the R solving for that is easy), the real challenge is getting an even higher high on the handling. For those who paid a higherADM you paid to get it first not knowing what the future holds. You could not have predicted ongoing fed policy and banks lending standards. Its still difficult to get $5k adm in the majority of instances.

This is my first brand new car. I'm not a fan of how everything is electronic. I know it comes with the territory being a brand new car. I came from an Evo 9 and drove that for about 14 years. It didn't even have cruise control. Besides that, it's a great car.
My brother bought my 06 FG2 and said the same thing about how he does not like that on newer cars. I see both sides.

I thought long about it and I don't have any material regrets. I'm pleased with the decision to purchase, price, car itself, and all modifications. That could change with time as I live with it all longer.

The only regret, if I could even call it one, is my approach in not being out in front with interest. I'm a strategist by nature so this unorthodox approach was a bit challenging for me. BLUF: I was late to the game on the FL5. I'm ashamed to admit I halfway dismissed it when it was announced years ago and unveiled last summer. The number one downside is I spent an inordinate amount of time securing an allocation and at a price I wanted to pay, since I got in just as demand reached a feverpitch. The second is I was unable to adequately prepare for the car. All other performance vehicles I've purchased in the past, I've had ample runway to research, research, research, and stock pile parts/line up appointments before the car's arrival. With this car, I didn't consider the car secured until it was in my driveway, so I refused to go too deep on that. Didn't make sense to spend the time researching and preparing for a car I may not get. Again, perhaps not a regret in the traditional sense, but my view on what could be an item of repentance.

I agree with this. At 10k markup I would have looked at those other 2 cars. Especially M2 since its more comfortable than it appears and fits 4 people. I sold my M2 to get the Type R but no regrets so far.

I gave this some thought. I am looking to find an error in what I have done, but I really can't come up with anything.

I can often do too much research in just about anything I do, but here, I have taken a more relaxed approach. I know I can undo or change direction if I do something I don't love, and I'm pleased with that mindset.

This is my daily driver. I have done things to make it a better daily driver for me. I have just under 11k miles on it. I love it, I drive it, and I take care of it.

Hi all. I have a CW one and it’s my first new car. I’m in the uk so paid zero mark up BUT it was still around £12k more than the outgoing FK8 which is a huge mark up in itself.
Having owned a 2016 RS3 8v previously, my regret is the lack of sound.
The CTR is a great car to drive and it steers round a corner in a way the RS3 never did but I wish it made some sort of noise. The engine is the soul of the car and although a mighty power train this 2.0 turbo lacks soul and does nothing to make you love the car . We just get an awful piped in synthesised sound through the speakers.
It’s making me consider selling purely to find a car with some soul, like a straight 6 or V8.
So far no aftermarket exhaust sound clips for the fl5 have sounded quite right in my opinion.
I wish Honda had engineered something into the exhaust sound.
A triple exhaust with an active valve yet it is as quiet as an EV!
All show with no damn noise.
Thats my regret.

No regrets. There’s nothing about the FL5 that would have made me change my decision to get one.

The only regret I have is maybe not being more prepared for the negotiating process…though I’m not sure what I could’ve done differently. From day 1, I did all negotiating in person. I knew this was the best way to let them know I was serious. The last car I bought was my family’s MDX in late 2019. The Acura dealership was doing everything they could to sell me a new vehicle back then. That’s absolutely not how things are anymore, at least not in this case. I left my local Honda dealership that first day bewildered…like what the F just happened? Was I not speaking English? Anyway…had I understood how VASTLY different the process is now versus pre-pandemic, it might’ve saved some unnecessary frustration and communication problems. It was such a strange experience to me, though it ended well.
