I see and hear reviews that note the "old" USB A's are in the Civic Type R FL5 and make it out to be a sin.

That is puzzling.

Go onto amazon or wherever and just search on usb a male to usb c female adapter.

I have nothing to do with this vendor, just typed the above and one can get 3 for $7.99. Hardly a "serious oversite".

Amazon adapter example (one of many)

Heck, I just bought a red set to switch out what I have in my car with red ones.

Simple. Cheap. Done.

Neat. Got any more brain busters?

Most people's don't want to look at the adapter. And it's 2026 get with the program Honda.

I think the issue is USB C itself can handle a higher charge current than USB A and is usually built with this in mind.

It's not a matter of just converting the old plug, it's the fact that it will still charge as slow as a USB A.

Roger that.

On the current civic hybrid:

The USB port can supply up to 3.0A of power. It does not output 3.0A unless requested by the device.
For amperage details, read the operating manual of the device that needs to be charged.

Under certain conditions, a device connected to the port may generate noise to the radio station you are listening to.

Not sure on our R's if this is the case....

Do people forget that USB-C to USB-A cables have been a thing for some time now?

I just use the old-school power port for charging, as my pre-fcaelift base model only has one USB port.

I bought the car with wireless charging, I'm gonna use the wireless charging, even if it fries my phone!

Honestly I don't care either way, USB A makes it backwards compatible with older stuff. If I really cared about faster charging in the car, I wouldn't use the ports.

From my limited research it seems like USB-A will charge at 2.5A if using a USB-C plug into your phone. USB-C to USB-C looks like 3A in the newer cars. Pretty negligible and seems a little overblown with how much everyone complains about it.
